Maybe Trump meant the gasoline price per liter, not gallon. If the price fell to $1.98/gallon the US oil producers and/or refiners would most likely be losing money and the industry would start shutting down marginal production.
If the price of oil collapses, US production will suffer. Lots of great paying jobs in rural areas are at stake.

A consideration for MAGA. Trump was President in 2020 but lost the election because the Democrats "rigged" the election. In 2024, Biden was President but the Democrats couldn't "rig" the election for Harris. I'd like to see an explanation.
In 2020 they used the Big Lie (100s of misleading claims) of "voter fraud" to try to overturn an election. In 2024 they're using similar tactics to create/amplify misleading claims of "government waste and fraud" to justify dismantling huge sections of the U.S. government.
