As a former wait staff who worked the Sunday brunch, I'd take a table of Karens over their fucking handsy husbands any day. Tbf, I never had a table of Karens. All the chuch ladies I met were timid and hopeful that I didn't spit in their husband's drink. I did spit in their husband's drink though.

The character fell into the trope eventually though. No surprise, really. The whole show was a series of tropes strung together with a couple inspirational shots. There wasn't enough K2 but he was good value for the tiny amount of screen time he got.

Oh, for sure. Kleya got Cassian's original back story. Only it was Draven that played Luthen's role for Cassian. Kleya was great right up until they turned her into a damsel for Cassian and Melshi to save.

My point was that he was re-drawn into a Han Solo-like character. I preferred the life-long resistance fighter that understood oppression. The series makes Cassian in the movie into a liar or an asshole. It's better for me if I just think they're different people.

The statement was that she didn't pay enough in tax and the question was what did she pay in taxes last year.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, in the series. In the movie, he is a committed rebel that had 'been in the fight' since he was 6 yrs old. The character was inspired by Palestinian kids throwing rocks at Israeli tanks during the Intifada. Andor grew up in resistance. His girlfriend didn't emotionally manipulate him into it.

If the left can see Gaza in Frenchified Ghorman, then why couldn't a MAGA see themselves as rebels against the oppression of the 'woke' left. Gilroy talked to Ross Douthat about that very thing.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
That's the thing about corporate entertainment; everything stays vague enough that you can see whatever you want in it. The left thinks Andor is a revolutionary work even though it is full of patriarchal and white supremacist tropes. They buy Coke cans with Andor's face on it and corporations laugh.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
Surely it's been that way since 2015?
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
Andor is a just a different character in the series versus the movie. And K2 isn't even that much of a buddy in Andor. It's not a good prequel. And don't be silly. Obviously all those reluctant rebels with non-human buddies in SW are Han Solo. But Rogue One Cassian isn't a reluctant rebel.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
I take the opposite position. Favreau should stay quiet. The more Gilroy talks about Andor, the more I hate the show and him. I don't need constant reminders that mediocre white men think they have sublime insights to share with us about art and revolution.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
Andor has nothing to do with Rogue One. It's not even the same guy, even though they have the same name and both have Diego Luna's face.

I know because people love Cassian Andor and Han Solo, the other great reluctant heroes of SW. They have dicks though so their failure to commit is complex and cool while Jyn is a "flat character" with a "simplistic character arc."
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
So Jyn becomes a secondary character in the movie that was created for her to be the protagonist. Felicity Jones clearly has better things to think about than what stupid SW fans think about Erso but she did an amazing job bringing to life a character that, were she a man, would have been loved.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
And there's the Fandor sobbing about the tragedy of Andor dying with a son he doesn’t know about in the “Great TragedyTM” of SW, ignoring/diminishing Jyn's sacrifice. Because she doesn't have a HopeBabyTM to carry on her her legacy and a heartbroken madonna to weep for her.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
Melshi gets 2 seasons of back story because Gilroy liked the actor but Jyn doesn’t get a mention, though the rebellion is busting her out of Wobani with days of the end of Andor.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s not fan service but mentioning Jyn’s name and mentioning that they found her in Wobani under a pseudonym would have been “lame” fan service.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
Gilroy, the fucking genius, couldn’t imagine how to introduce Jyn into Andor but he could manage to get Krennic into 3/4s of s2, because the project manager of the Death Star would be interrogating an ISB officer like he had the fucking clearance to even know what’s in her emails.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
More than one Fandor has said that Rogue One is all about Cassian now but Rogue One was written with Jyn Erso as the protagonist. It’s the only Disney SW product that allowed a complicated, sometimes unlikeable, female protagonist have her fucking story and now it’s Cassian Andor’s story.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
"How exactly is her legacy shat on? Like. She's not in the show and I don't really recall anything happening that retroactively diminishes her role." Clearly you lack critical analysis. Andor erases Jyn from the story while expanding secondary characters like Krennic & Melshi.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
because Tony Gilroy is nothing if not predictable. The difference is that once Jyn commits to the rebellion, she fucking commits, unlike Cassian in Andor who keeps changing his mind and refusing to commit.
sambarge.bsky.social (@sambarge.bsky.social) reply parent
"I'm gonna step over caring about Jyn Erso, a flat character who goes thru a simplistic character arc" Clearly, you’re not going to step over it. You had to insult the character (whose arc was written by Gilroy, by the way) even though her character arc is identical to Cassian Andor in Andor;

I'm gonna step over caring about Jyn Erso, a flat character who goes thru a simplistic character arc to hop onto my actual puzzlement of this statement- How exactly is her legacy shat on? Like.
