Some view it as hyperbole; others don't even know what the words mean. But it's all textbook. Textbook history, textbook political science, textbook psychology, textbook social psychology. Elementary stuff, not obscure. And it's happening in real time, right before our eyes.

the other thing is that this is so easy to predict and the only reason so many of our pundits have a hard time with it is because they have fully bought the idea that Trump is some pure representation of what the Volk wants.
Will Stancil (@whstancil.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
An actual child could do a better job of describing politics in the US right now than our most sophisticated pundits are doing, because a child wouldn't be concerned whether or not he sounds like a sophisticated pundit.

Any useful codebase is going to be of a certain size, have defined coding/testing/org standards, have business requirement contradictions, etc. and those things produce gigantic context windows and can lead to generative messes that are expensive to clean up.
Scott Burton (@scottburton.me) reply parent
I do a lot of AI-assisted coding now and I think this is right, but the timelines are overstated. There are still problems that tilt the risk/reward to the John Henry side.
Scott Burton (@scottburton.me) reply parent
That's just not believable. When you're off by a few degrees that's "poor wording", but you inverted your position completely. Context is important here, "defending gender norms" isn't an obscure thing, it's the load-bearing pillar of the new centrism your contributors advocate.
Scott Burton (@scottburton.me) reply parent
I'll be honest, I've never seen a democrat say "no please don't implicate my precious bill clinton", I don't know where you're getting that.

Scott Burton (@scottburton.me)
There's a weird ad on YouTube showing people in Gaza City eating food with a gotcha tagline "there is food in Gaza, any other claim is a lie" as if not starving was some kind of shameful secret

What's the roadmap for that? Be specific.

His brother Fred Jr. explains the rest – a sensitive, capable person who tried to build a life for himself outside of his toxic family, whom Donald and Fred Sr. ridiculed and hounded to suicide. Every time you hear Donald call someone a "loser" it's just a proxy for what Sr. thought of Fred Jr.

But if you're a hand weaver facing down the first power loom, arguing that it can't do your job is *demonstrated* to be the doomed position. Arguing that it shouldn't change your job is *definitionally* reactionary conservatism. Smashing it with hammers feels noble but ultimately will fail.
Scott Burton (@scottburton.me) reply parent
And it's not hard to understand why. People feel threatened. Some of the worst people we know are doing the threatening. Their idiotic gooner fans are thrilled. It adds to the stochastic flood we seem to be trapped in.
Scott Burton (@scottburton.me) reply parent
I've held this view a long time, and usually mean it flatteringly - leftists work to conserve the environment, the working class, human dignity, the American system of government, all noble things! - but it's hard to argue this anti-AI sentiment is anything but classical reactionary conservatism.
Scott Burton (@scottburton.me)
There are many people on this website who can make nuanced, thoughtful, informed pro/anti arguments about LLMs and the fact that they're drowned out by the "useless slop plagiary" consensus shows we've been applying the "conservative" label to the wrong people this whole time.
