Not too long ago comedians regularly had jokes involving people in an iron lung. Let's not bring that back! I had an aunt who survived polio. It withered her left leg. She considered herself lucky. People used to think you caught polio in public pools, so they were closed during outbreaks.

Both grandfathers worked in factories (tool and die making, chemical/pharma). Both were promoted to management. They had all blue shirts 1 day, then all white for white-collar jobs. Each lasted less than a year, felt they were betraying their union brothers, so took demotions back to the shop floor.
Both of my parents were teachers. Some years both were on strike. Times were lean then! The union would feed us at big spaghetti dinners held at local firehouses. And they always made sure we had Christmas presents.

I met the guy who invented Lasik surgery about 17 years ago, and back THEN he said he developed an iris scanner for the govt that could read your eye and identify you as you walked down a hallway. 17 years ago. Face recognition . . . Meh.

I'd suggest politicians do legislation in 2 parts. 1st, something that starts DAY 1, even if it's small, as long as it's noticeable & resolves the frustration of waiting, + the (2nd) longer, slower part that is the meat of the matter. Maybe an interim event/payoff to show progress, if needed.

Government has not kept pace with the modern mind. It takes ages to pass legislation & create positive change. Today's electorate is used to having nearly everything on-demand or instantly. A dictator resolves the frustration of having to wait forever for something. We have no patience = dictator.
