Variables put in places by Republicans (and recently even some Democrats) over decades, slowly but surely. It won't be removed just with the disappearance of Trump. Once he's gone the variables will keep the door open for someone else, who will bring fascism even more easily, thanks to Trump.

It won't solve the main problem: everything that brought Trump to where he is will still be there.
There are virtues to working with people you otherwise disagree with. It's much harder, for example, for people to "other" religious, sexual, ethnic, & racial minorities when they spend time working with them as allies. It's no accident that the authoritarian right now wages a war against empathy.
We should expect the regime — with help from Russia and other foreign actors — to engage in active measures to stoke tensions within the opposition. They will accuse us of being foreign agents. They will attempt to infiltrate the opposition with the aim of radicalizing and discrediting it.
There's no point in punishing the nominees of the opposition for stances that we consider beyond the pale — let alone ones that are problematic. The logic of "teaching them a lesson" presupposes that we still have a system in which the opposition can win elections.
There are things we can influence, of course. Most of what we can do right now is prepare, especially for participation in collective mobilization against the regime — and here I mean everything from becoming involved in local politics and civil society to learning the tactics of mass protest.
This is what I was yelling at the roof for years now. How many times do I see people here asking what they can do to reverse the climbing authoritarian regime, and they still believe the solution is some kind of superhero that's gonna work for them to stop all this instead of working hard together.

It is natural to get caught in the catharsis of imagining Trump being gone, but we can’t let it rock us into complacency. This fascistic moment was built on people wanting to believe an investigation or scandal or election would rid us of Trump, which cost us valuable time organizing resistance.

Medicare will start requiring prior approval for certain procedures — and will hire private AI companies to determine if patients are covered. The AI companies would have financial incentives to deny claims, because Medicare plans to pay them some of the savings from rejections.
