Young people literally aren’t allowed to vote. And slightly older people are systematically disenfranchized by a voting system that requires stability, in a country where young people have been denied stability by the self-enriching geriocracy.
It is also the case that old people are allowed to vote, regardless of cognitive capacity, and young people aren’t. Lower the voting age to thirteen and see how competitive those incumbents are then.
The playing field isn’t level. Incumbents take ongoing bribes from the people and companies they regulate, whereas challengers can only fundraise from people not afraid to piss off those legislators.
There is also “influence peddling”, “party apparatus”, “legal insider trading”, “existing war chest”, and “free media time” 🙄 Places with public funding of elections see more challenger victories for good reasons.
