But how does she get points for saving the guinea pig that she endangered in the first place?

Awesome. Incoming email.

There is absolutely no need to follow me, but if you do, there are things you should know: 1. This account is for stream-of-consciousness, unplanned posts. 2. I'm not here to argue with you. 3. I block frequently. See above. 4. Don't be a dick. 5. Equality for *all*. 6. I'm openly Black.

These folks just haven't done enough reading.

I only know one song about gold:
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
? is this Byrne-related?
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
The dude could waffle.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
Ahh, the discourse. Someone just said human (writers) don't pad, therefore it's a sign of AI. Sweet summer child of mine...

YES! Please.

Jesus, I already have Ash in paperback and I would buy an unread hardback.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Absolute cracker of a novel. Unflinching. Disturbing. More people need to discover/rediscover Gentle.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
"Sightings". You know you've arrived as a felon when the word 'sightings' is used in connection with you. It's Lord Lucan all over again...
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Sorry, The Visible Men.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm vaguely flashing back to Moorcock's Visible Man...
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh. I thought we quaffed Port...
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
I'm about 35% into Project Cow. I only have to write 900 words to meet today's target word count. I'll probably continue past that. I have to do some admin. Boo! Hiss! It's interesting to me that scenes from the next novel are intruding upon my consciousness now. Sultry distractions, begone!

What do you do when all that's left is the Life Model Decoy? Posted for no reason at all. Why?
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Crazy to think they subbed her in with no notice. Just woke a sister up in the middle of the night with curlers in her hair...
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, but Atwood has this decades-long aversion to genre cooties. She spent a lot of time an energy telling us that Oryx and Crake wasn't science fiction (because SF was 'rockets and ray guns').
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
Oh, good grief! Just go back to hiring humans, you wankers.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Boom!
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I think Van Damme was still sparring partner to Chuck Norris at that time, right? He had no speaking parts, but he had to get the split in. Because knife throwers always do it from the split position.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Kosugi was on the verge of bursting that anti-Asian leading man bias. But Domination was a silly movie, no matter which way you cut it.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
No, it had nothing to do with feminism or empowerment. They were all about the box office and lycra.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Sorry, I wasn't aware there was a point in contention. What point? There's nothing you've said that I disagree with.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Pretty confusing for Marvel to have a Diamondhead in a blue costume and a Blue Diamond in a blue costume.

I still have corduroy from the last revival that my missus wouldn't let me wear.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I think start with the Multiverse graphic novel that he did with Walt Simonson. I personally like Mother London, but I think you should consider one of the short fiction collections like The Best of Michael Moorcock. There's just so much excellent stuff, depending on if you lean SF or fantasy.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
😮 First, I must gasp.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
That's clearly a Jerry Cornelius alias! The urine is a dead giveaway.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent

I just found this in a book, used for a bookmark. I think I drew it last year.

Happy Birthday, Ed.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
Hey.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I can't find the original making-of, but here's one that seems to say a lot of what the first one covered:
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Welcome back!
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Reverse causality is a hell of a drug. The same factors that cause persistent absence cause missing of school in the same week. Investigate those factors? No, we will attack the first week instead.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course as a young boy, I had no idea about the messaging of the movie, but I tried to watch it again last year I think, and I was horrified. Then I saw a making-of video that detailed just how much Kosugi fiddled with it and why.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
He was sexist and he interferred with Ninja III more than any other. He changed the ending because man can't be beaten by a woman. That movie had multiple problems (like an attempted rape where the cop doesn't even caution the would-be-rapists because he wants to have sex with the heroine).
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Especially the women.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I actually liked Kosugi as a martial artist, but I think of him as a man 100 years outside of his time period. The film business thrives on a flexibility that he didn't have, and a performative equality that he wasn't willing to adopt.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
*Leading man! Jeez!
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
He was a bit in his own way as a leading me. He would not allow anyone to beat him on screen who he thought he could beat in real life. And he thought he could beat anyone in real life, so... He also had very specific limits on what he would allow women to do. He had no flex.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
And that poster is misleading.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean...I like the first Van Damme/ koshugi fight. It had intensity and the way it ended with the nosebleed worked for me. The rest of it was a mess.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, I started by painting the whole page black and using the white to create the forms.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
Didn't come out exactly how I wanted. Sumi ink and correction fluid
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, but it was still funny to think physics was about to burst into Quantum stuff and say: Guess what? I'm back with some new stuff!
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
It was over a decade before 'Me Too', and the understanding in the media of consent (and even DID) was less sophisticated.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Love this.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yep.

The pizza guy is extremely important! Night shifts have a whole different economy and food delivery is an important part.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes! Meanwhile, it's pretty spy.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I was shocked they broadcast it. And the episode coded his actions as good.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
*Often thought to be Lord Kelvin, but he didn't say it. It's actually Albert Michelson, who also didn't say it, but said something that was paraphrased into it.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
Three things that I like that have been said to be 'dying': 1. Rap music/hip-hop. 2. The comics 'industry'. 3. Science fiction. Not in this lifetime. Everything will evolve, but they're going nowhere. It's like the dude* who (apocryphally) said we now know everything there is to discover.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I wish I could disagree with this, but ...😔 It's so annoying.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
The wording doesn't exactly suggest that. It says they came to an agreement. Deciding what is equitable would be a nightmare. But I'm not a lawyer, and maybe I'm reading it wrong.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm not a lawyer, but I have seen people get part of a settlement that amounted to £100.00 or even less, but they had to sign up to the terms of the agreement to get it.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
One aspect of this Anthropic settlement that I'm not seeing a lot of commentary on: If you get the cash, what are you agreeing to? Settlements are an agreement. Does it come with a spanking new NDA where you can't criticize either Anthropic specifically or techbros generally for stealing your work?
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I feel like one of those medication adverts is appropriate here: ask your professional if Dating (TM) is right for you. 😁
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, right in the back, many years ago. Luckily, I was in the right place to be stabbed.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
When I was dating I used the Starship Troopers test: do I want to see more or know more about this person? That's it. If I'm not curious about them, then I don't want to go on a date.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, but do they sit astride the gurney saying, 'don't you die on me!' while drums play?
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
A lot of what you have to do is drilled into you so many times, that you can be paged, wake from a deep sleep, and do it. And, from the perspective of the patient, it's an unusual occurrence, whereas to the health professionals, it's just Tuesday.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
The one I complained about was a doctor physically shaking a woman with DID, telling her to snap out of it. Like, literally, laying hands on the woman.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, I've had general craziness from time to time, and there's always That Day when everything goes weird. I've been threatened with death, punched, stabbed, etc. But most of the time it's calm efficiency. But I'm not talking about the US, so maybe it's different.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree with your assessment.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Right?
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Medical dramas lie constantly. I once wrote to the BBC about their show 'Doctors' about something that would NEVER happen, and they straight-up said, it's for dramatic effect and not based in reality.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
On the other hand, I did see a famous person arrive dead, but described in the dailies as 'died in hospital after he could not be resuscitated'. Absolute bollocks. Body was cold, pupils fixed and dilated. But of course we couldn't talk about it.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
I liked ER until I got to medical school and realised that the emergency department is mostly calm AF. People efficiently deal with your spurting blood vessel without dramatic, percussion music. Not a single person sitting astride a trolley delivering CPR as the ambulance crew wheel into the OR.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Jamie, you realise that your headshot looks like you've just apologised for something, right? Like you accidentally dropped an F-bomb in a formal setting or something.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Oss! Congrats!
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Glassed a man in Glasgow.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent

Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
He'll be safe. I only have a vague idea of where Reno is.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social)
Can I write a Country song if I've never shot a man in Reno?
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I was only one generation off. That's Bob Peak's son. And you can see the influence.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm more interested in this poster. Bob Peak? Or even Bill Sienkiewicz?
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I sometimes read Fowler's Usage dictionary for laughs. I've read Strunk and White several times, but not in the last five years. I flip through Booth's The Rhetoric of Fiction and read segments for fun too.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, shit. Sorry to hear that.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
I, er, read narratology for fun.
Tade Thompson (@tadethompson.bsky.social) reply parent
Especially since comics weren't built to be archival back then.
