I enjoyed it and thought it was funny, so it's sad to read that others had a hard time with it. The four Neo-Vulcans fit well into established Vulcan patterns of behaviour
Ross Webster (@tehborg.bsky.social)
Seems that there is a lot about 'Four & a Half Vulcans', which has caused hurt to a variety of folk. I'm going to have to watch it again with a more critical eye

A find in the wild, a British Gold Key hardcover reprint. Published by World Distributors (Manchester) in 1978, as seen on BBC TV, Star Trek: Annual 1979. This issue reprints Gold Key #36, A Bomb in Time, and #40, Furlough to Fury, and also contains 10 additional fillers of puzzles and photos.

Honestly I thought the story was quite good. I didn't mind the style either (I like when they mess with genre), but I definitely got the feel of 'a show doing a pretend documentary episode' rather than an actual documentary - I know this is a weird criticism!

Vulcan Pike's monologue: Space: An almost perfect vacuum, virtually devoid of matter. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It’s continuing mission to explore the material & organic nature of the galaxy, to go boldly to areas the Vulcan Science Directorate has previously ignored.

A classic sci-fi trope, but given a fresh twist as so much is portrayed from the perspective of the planet. Stand out Star Trek!

I would love to see a Voyager reboot set in the Kelvin timeline. Each season set in one part of the Delta Quadrant, focusing on one aspect of the Kelvin variant of a classic DQ Species!

I enjoyed the horror angle, but it took a long time to get into the mystery. Plus, they could have done more with the interdimensional & temporal confusion. The villain was truly evil & quite terrifying and (film ref spoiler) resolution was quite satisfying!

Blink and you'll miss it (pardon the pun!) but the Gorn are shown to have an outer horizontal eyelid ↖️↗️ and an inner, vertical, separately opening and closing eyelid ⬅️➡️↙️↘️ in #StarTrekSNW's "Hegemony II"...and that eyelid is sparkling silver, like the Gorn eyes in "Arena"!!! 😊🧵 1/3
Ross Webster (@tehborg.bsky.social)
Theory: Gorn compound eye lenses seen in TOS are artificial ocular devices to moderate light emissions and prevent the types of photonic mind control seen in SNW!

(1/3) “Regeneration”’s story of unintentional consequences of First Contact, complete with temporal paradox, is one I find compelling. And we get more glimpses of the troubled Archer from S3, together with those words we’ll hear again (here voiced by T’Pol), “you had no choice”. #StarTrekEnterprise

I do enjoy that sense of tidy closure, where a loose end is explained away in an incredibly satisfying way! I've missed it a little. Romulan agents will work, but perhaps won't be as satisfying (Tho I did think it worked very well in Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow for Khan)
Ross Webster (@tehborg.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm sure Chekov & Khan discussed La'an when they met during Space Seed! Otherwise, a Romulan Temporal agent can hand-wave all these minor inconsistencies away!

As the source of the Burn, it was wholly underwhelming, but then could anything ever live up to that massive destruction? Warp drive destroying subspace was a much better, and much more relevent cause for the dissolution of space travel and the fracturing of the UFP
Ross Webster (@tehborg.bsky.social) reply parent
The actual scream I am in two minds about. As a weird mutant with the power to destroy dilithium, Su'kul was an interesting character - shame this idea was never explored beyond the source of the Burn
Ross Webster (@tehborg.bsky.social)
Agreed - The Burn was an awesome idea that genuinely could have been the foundation for an entire series! The actual 'Burn' galaxy-wide, starship explosion was irritatingly daft tho

HAPPY STAR TREK RED SHIRTS #1 DAY. This one really means a lot to me. I lettered five Treks prior to this one (three you've seen, two you haven't), but this is genuinely the first direct market comic with my name on the cover. I might've gotten A TAD emotional upon initially seeing it.
