My nectar feeder is just outside my home office window; when the hummingbirds leave it, they climb rapidly up out of my sight so I don't know where they go. Yesterday I was sitting out back and noticed that they frequently perch at the very tip top of our spruce for a wee rest! #birds #Bobsbackyard

An un-zoomed shot of the top of our spruce tree, with a cloudless blue sky behind it. Barely visible to the naked eye is a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird - if I hadn't seen her fly up there from the feeder, I'd never have noticed her. Here's a 2nd post of the day, of a Common Loon family at our camp in northern Ontario - dedicated to @aba.org and @birdizlife.bsky.social for their support of my book and providing me an opportunity to write a feature article on birding for wellness. The Common Loon is their bird of the year

Warbler cage match! For those who want to play, name your fave in the comments. Hopefully enough play to get a clear winner. We'll do the same the next 2 days with 2 more sets of 4, and on Friday pit the 3 winners for a grand champ Black & white, Blackburnian, Black throated Green, Tennessee #birds

There's been a lot of Blue Jays shenanigans in my backyard lately - 5 or 6 youngsters coming to the feeders, but then begging to be fed when they are more than capable themselves. I'm not sure, but at times it seems they are begging to each other, not to adults #birds #Ancaster #HamOnt #Bobsbackyard

Several blue jays in my tray feeder, with one begging with its mouth wide open Several blue jays in my tray feeder, with one begging with its mouth wide open, now flapping its wings, and leaning towards another Success! Several blue jays in my tray feeder, with one being fed by another Wants more! Having been fed, it continues to beg and flap its wings.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you. Rafting in Haines would be magical, you probably saw dozens of them!

A few days ago I posted a close up photo of this bald eagle. Here it is in all its glory, along with two shots of a nest on the shoreline by camp. #birds #Birding #Algoma #NorthernOntario #eagle #Baldeagle

A huge bald eagle perched on a horizontal dead branch, with a blue sky background. It is looking off the left, with an intense look in its yellow eye. Shoreline at our camp, taken from a boat not too far off shore. In the centre of the photo is a tall white pine tree, with the nest near to the top of it. In my next life, I want to come back as a cat and live like Loshi does! Happy #Caturday!

Our Russian blue cat Loshi is asleep on a towel draped over the back of our couch. He's got one leg stretched out over the back of the couch. He is totally gray, except for his green eyes, which you can't see as he is sleeping.

At camp last week, I watched this Yellow-rumped Warbler drop rapidly to the ground, and snag a juicy green caterpillar. He then proceeded to tenderize it by bashing it against the log he's on, before eating it. #birds #birding #Algoma #NorthernOntario #warbler
