Even the shinkansen is suitably futuristic to me. The fact that I could ride it from Osaka to Tokyo for a project and then ride it back the same day in the evening without it completely destroying my night was amazing.

I used to live by handhelds, but my life was different then. Now I work from home and travel for work far less than before, so they're just relegated to holidays. But yeah, I mostly just break out the Switch 2 or Steam Deck when waiting for a flight, or hanging in the hotel room.
I've played with a few of them. If you pick the right one, they're sturdy, and still totally playable if you have large hands like I do.

Nowadays, I don't even take a handheld with me on trips unless I know I'll be sitting in a hotel room for a while. Playing a Steam Deck or even Switch when you're out and about is a fucking pain.
God, I miss when a handheld fit in your pocket. I used to ride the train to work with my DS in my pocket, and would break it out to grind a dungeon or something. Personally not a big fan of handhelds being these big things that need carrying cases now.

Thank goodness they eventually added loadouts. Being able to keep a stealth build and a combat build I could switch between was so useful. Too bad you had to go into a menu to do it. Would have loved a hot key.
I'm the stealthy boy, so I always snuck into bases, and then killed the boss in front of people to fear them, and then finish them all off.
I played the demo, and did find myself getting lost. I will think on it. I'm just worried that I'll play it and just be frustrated the whole time. I don't want that. I'd much rather just enjoy the game.
This makes me miss living in Japan so much. There was a time when I was working on a project in Tokyo, but living in Osaka, and at least once a week I would take the shinkansen to Tokyo in the morning and taking it back home in the evening on the same day.

There's this erroneous assumption that people who like easy combat in games "do not care about combat in games". This is false for many people. Many people enjoy the mechanics of combat, but don't need challenge to enjoy playing around with them. That's it. It's that simple.

A Microsoft employee at an Xbox party at Tokyo Game Show introduced the feature to me as squirting, so that's pretty official to me.
Maybe they heard about the "squirting" thing and decided they didn't want to deal with that mess.
And with SO MANY games coming out these days, everyone is bound to find something that fits them. Instead of shaming people for playing their way, as long as they're not ruining the fun of others, what's the harm?
I think it's a reasonable assumption that ppl play difficult games because they're fun. If that's the case, why not let people play on easy if they find it fun? Isn't the whole point fun? As I've gotten older, this point has become more concrete in my mind. The core should be enjoyment.

Imo, right now, if people are interested in getting into Destiny as an IP, Rising is probably the best way to jump in. The onboarding is good, and you can emulate it on PC if you don't want to play mobile.
I feel like even if I don't like a popular song, I can see why people like it. Often times it's an absolute earworm. Butterfly is just awful in all ways, and I question the taste of anyone who liked it unironically.

Sounds like Switch 2 performance is dragging down review scores for Titanic Scion. If you have a PS5 or a gaming PC, those are the platforms you should be picking it up on. (as long as the release build runs like the demo, I'll be happy)

I love FFXII so much.
I'm really excited for this game. I love the idea of a game length narrative deadline, but it only moves forward as you complete quests and interact with the world. Feels a bit like Persona or Metaphor in that way.
A lot of people could stand to take this advice.

The biggest recommendation I can give for DD1 is to save port crystals for putting at key locations in the game so you can complete escort quests super quickly.
I personally think DD1 is a game you must play, especially Dark Arisen.
You can skip DD1 if you're short on time. It's a great game, but DD2, especially early on, is a redux of the DD1 formula.
I loved the DSi. My favorite of the bunch.

I thought I was free from the JRPG mines after finishing my Xenoblade marathon, but I just realized I need to finish Trails Through Daybreak 2 and Trails in the Sky 1st before Beyond the Horizon releases in 2026. What an insane timeline for a JRPG fan to live in.
In comparison, I've already put 5 hours into the Titanic Scion demo, because the save data carries over to the full game.

The funniest part of Pocari Sweat is that, in my experience of drinking it on and off for over a decade living in Japan, it straight up tastes like sweat. So...truth in advertising I suppose.
I agree. Titanic Scion especially has a ton going for it. I also found that if I position it as "this is what Anthem could have been" it gets ppl interested without creating unrealistic expectations. My friends know I care more about art design than graphical fidelity.

Yeah, that's rough. As a consumer, I find it hard to invest time in a demo when I KNOW I'll have to redo everything when the game comes out. That's why I usually play a few minutes, go "yep this is rad" and turn it off.

I've been using a Razor DeathAdder V2 mouse for years, and while I love it, it has had the jankiest scroll wheel since day 1 (sometimes when I scroll down it scrolls up). Right now, I'm looking at best gaming mice 2025 on PC Gamer, and trying to convince myself to spend money on a new mouse.
Same. usually, I would just turn on the demo, play for a few minutes, go "yep, this is cool, I'll buy this when it releases" and then turn it off. When I can carry my save over, I end up doing absolutely everything the demo has to offer.

Give it a shot! The starting tutorial is in a cramped ship, so it's not super great, but once you get to the planet surface, it gets real good.
