The pathological NEED that US journalism has to make "both sides" flawed in equivalent ways is simply killing any hope for a peaceful republic.

From my experience, #1 and #2 eventually winds up being different in some way, and then leads to the answer in #3 being, "Absolutely not." And then the problem (and reason) for why a "liberal media apparatus" doesn't already exist. It's not from lack of trying. It's because it's impossible.
Whenever I hear this sentiment about a "liberal news apparatus" I ask three questions. 1) What message do you think this apparatus should advance? 2) What message would it ACTUALLY advance? 3) Would you accept the answer in #2?

Everything about Newsom's policy is entirely "meh" at best. What is sad is that all he needed to do is get a social media team to post like Trump does on Truth Social for left-leaning BlueSky (and from many different walks of life) to crown him the "fighter" they wanted to see.

It seems to me there are one of three paths to take here. 1) We treat it as a business where we pay for service. 2) We treat it as a labor of love, and hold no demands for specific services. 3) We accept we will do neither, and that the business will have to find other ways to keep the doors open.

There's a degree that Democrats are GOING to suck when it comes to identity. The tent is so damn big (and frankly has to be that big) that finding a consensus on the overarching identity is either going to be A) impossible or B) so generically vague that it will mean next to nothing.

Again, the "opinion columns" really only reinforce the discomfort that is already there. This isn't new. It is largely nature for people to fear or be wary of something foreign or that they don't understand. Overcoming that is the challenge, not "opinion pieces."
The best way forward remains the people throwing off the administration, either through violent protest or through the ballot box. Yes, it sucks that the public always moves slower and less profoundly than needed, but if you want any semblance of freedom going forward, that's the only way out.
