It's a hard lesson that everyone (except the unconscionably wealthy, I suppose) has to learn at some point. Police NEVER make things better. They NEVER improve anything. The VERY best you can ever hope for from introducing police into a situation is minimal escalation.
As much as I disagreed with Biden's admin's messaging (and often their LACK of messaging), there's one thing they did that I always wished would catch on. They framed these races as fights "for the soul of America." I took that to mean that the MORAL issues at stake needed to be front and center.

I'm sorry man, the 13th amendment says it might be cool for people to be enslaved if they've been convicted of a crime. Chattel slavery is no longer legally practiced here (for the last 83 years), but there's still plenty of abhorrent slavery of other flavors going on.
The last known chattel enslaved man (enslaved specifically because of his skin color, if there is any question on that) was released September of 1942.
Slavery still exists legally in the US.
