Others will concur. A new trail opened in Scarborough a few years ago? Still not on Google Maps.
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
Hahahaha have you tried recommending changes? Iāve done that, it takes ages for it to get approved and it usually doesnāt get approved anyway. I spent days trying to fix the cycling network mistakes on Google Maps by recommending hundreds of changes and almost none of them got approved.
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social)
Why do people need to know itās light rail? Also these signs were different a few months ago. Metrolinxās Wayfinding standards keep on changing so often, that the Eglinton station signs have to keep on being replaced š. Great way to keep people employed I guess.

Anyone have recommendations for theft proof bike lights? Someone stole my bike seat and seatpost once š and then so I made that locked down with a special key rather than quick release I donāt want to have to keep on buying lights but I also want to keep my riding habits as frictionless as possible

Iām always confused when people complain about cyclists not stopping at stop signs. The vast majority of drivers do a ārolling stopā (i.e., they donāt actually stop) when possible. This is so normal people donāt even see it as breaking the law, but when cyclists do the same thing, it stands out.

Finch West LRTās main goal was to be slightly faster but much more reliable with lane separation and much more capacity than the 36 bus which was overcrowded. You can only send so many buses. Hurontario however shouldāve been a subway or light metro.
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
They are misleading on Google Maps. Says thereās bike lanes where there are absolutely none and no bike lanes where they actually exist. The Eglintonās bike lanes for the length of the underground LRT section (Keele - Mt Pleasant) have been delayed to be implemented with the opening of the LRT.
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean for one, thereās no traffic signals every 50m like Toronto š They just make eye contact, slow down and negotiate right of way. It sounds dangerous and chaotic, but itās chaotic, surprisingly safe and extremely efficient for everyone.

The rate of building e-stations (bike share stations that charge bikes) has been significantly slower and incredibly tedious. Bike Share solar stations can be put in basically anywhere thereās space and can be dropped in like itās Lego. But e-stations are definitely way more complicated.
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
Bike Share is doubling down on e-bikes as theyāve been very popular but also have been great revenue. The issue is that all dead e-bikes have to be manually moved by van by staff to get charged in either the warehouse or a very limited amount of charging stations in the city.

This project is more than a billion dollars for a single freaking station. If they canāt find pennies in the couch cushions for doors. Weāre screwed. TTC cares about your safety except for initiatives that would both improve safety by saving lives and improving operations. Seems like a no brainer.

Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social)
Paula Fletcher vetoād a motion for the TTC/City implementing temporary transit priority measures like no stopping restrictions, turning restrictions & some dedicated lanes to alleviate diverted streetcars in Downtown & to speed up service. ā¦and it flew COMPLETELY under the radar. Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
The ION has a ton of signalized intersections in some sections but what is vital in IONās case is quite big distances between the transit stops. So less stopping and more going.
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
In Waterloo, the LRTs are usually given a green by pre-emptively starting a countdown phase far in advance on cross-streets that currently have greens. Additionally, LRTs usually get priority over left-turning vehicles ^(I actually havenāt fully confirmed this but Iād love to test my hypothesis)
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
@ontariotrafficman.bsky.social made a really good video a while back. Unfortunately, itās quite invisible and limited. Even whatās shown in the video is hard to believe from most peopleās experiences. youtu.be/t76X4csl6NY?...
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
Toronto doesn't have active signal priority, unlike Waterloo's LRT which essentially turns the light green for the train in advance. Line 5 (which we're treating like a subway) will be plagued w. unreliability if it keeps missing lights. TSP should always be in effect, not just when its late!
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social)
It annoys me so much when I see a streetcar that could have easily made the signal...not make the signal. Even the streetcar in the right-of-way. It just barely misses the green, stops, cross-traffic goes, cross traffic stops, cars left-turn or u-turn (of course) & the streetcar finally comes. 1/2
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
Initiatives like wider stop distances & cutting stns are often used to save costs & increase the likelihood of projects getting built rather than genuinely speeding up service. Unfortunately, The Hamilton LRT itself is being politically dangled on all sides. A shame we havenāt started construction.
Hafeez A. (@trainguy89.bsky.social) reply parent
Uhmm the TTC does have a stop consolidation program and theyāre pretty assertive about it.
