Plenty of trades pay well though. Plumbers, mechanics, electricians and welders generally do better than service jobs or low level corporate jobs. Less vulnerable to being downsized or outsourced too.
I agree, but we have a couple generations of kids raised by parents, teachers, etc who believed and ingrained in the kids that white-collar jobs would give them a better future. This way of thinking is not going to change overnight.
