These ghouls always try to eliminate two categories of gun deaths from the argument: 1. Suicide 2. Gang violence So the idea is people who die in those categories don't count, apparently. And once you eliminate them, gun deaths aren't all THAT bad. The mind reels.

The weirdest thing about this statement is that is uses the word "Mayor" five times, yet doesn't actually mention anybody who is a mayor.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
They're not cowards. That implies they don't want this, but they're too scared to speak up against it. They're framing it this way because they themselves are fascists, who want fascism. That goes for the billionaires who own the media, and for the Republican Party themselves.

'90s hip-hop was - and I say this without an ounce of hyperbole - the gayest genre of music ever. Snoop has written more lyrics about having sex with men than just about anyone else.

I liked how every election post-mortem was "Democrats need to do more of [X]," and it turned out [X] was precisely what the person saying it wanted them to do. Hate trans people? "Democrats need to throw trans people under the bus." Bernie fan? "Democrats need to listen to progressives more."
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
If you win: "See, this is the kind of messaging Democrats need to engage people!" If you lose: "Why was this dork talking about scavenger hunts instead of the actual issues? This is exactly why Democrats can't win!" No offense, but I just want to be sure I can be smug no matter the outcome.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
No. This narrative needs to die. Closeted homosexuality is not the cause of homophobia. Some people are just shitty. Stop blaming gay people.

To be charitable, this year had a pretty stacked ballot. It's quite possible the writer had 11 names he wanted to choose, but had to leave off one because of the 10-vote limit. So he chose the most likely to make it without his vote.

This is the start of her "One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This" pivot, and she should be reminded every day how she called anti-genocide protestors "ignorant." But the responses to this include the words "babe," "cow," and "bitch," which, well, yikes. Americans really hate women.

Athletes should be paid commensurate with the amount they earn, just like any worker. To fund cancer research and teachers, we would increase the tax rate on the highest earners - a category that includes many top athletes and especially owners. I don't think you'd get any argument about that.

Being charitable, he could have seen the original reply ("I am getting very turned off by pro sports.") as being anti-Francona. It was clearly anti-a-system-where-Francona-is-the-exception, of course, so the person jumped to an incorrect conclusion and then was a dick about it.

A. Irrelevant to this class discussion B. I roughly agree with you there, although i.) the 2-party duopoly is the system we have and we must work with that; and ii.) one side cut Medicaid and SCHIP and the other would have kept them. Class consciousness demands understanding the difference.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
If I'm interpreting it correctly, you're saying that in order to blame voters for doing something that harms the lower class, one has to have no class consciousness. Work me through your logic here.

Anytime a candidate isn't as far left as I am, it's annoying. That might sound like sarcasm, but it's truly not. I've spent my whole life being annoyed by political candidates. Yet that doesn't stop me from choosing the better option.

Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
Or they get so goddamn short-sighted that they completely lose the plot. You know what you could do to help the people of Gaza vis-a-vis the Presidential election? NOTHING. Staying home did nothing to help them, but it did a lot to hurt others. And that's why I'm so worked up about all this.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
"I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I voted for X." Good for you, I guess, but you're not the main character of the election. Our side are supposed to be the moral ones, who care about other people and our impact on the world. But when it comes to elections so many people forget that.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
If you're not looking at an election as an opportunity to do the most good (and yes, sometimes that means choosing less evil, which... who the hell doesn't want less evil? It's less evil!) you're looking at it wrong. ESPECIALLY so if you're looking at an election as how you feel about yourself.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
We got to choose whether trans people are considered human. We got to choose whether an armed force larger than the Marines gets turned on the American people. This is not abstract. This is not a fucking game. This is not "your candidate" or "my candidate." This has real impact on real people.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
Reality is that We The People got to make a choice between USAid existing or not. We got to choose between NOAA and the National Weather Service existing or not. We got to choose whether the federal government recognizes climate change is real. We got to choose whether children get vaccinations.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
What I'm seeing in this whole pointless discussion is how much people want to make elections abstract. Oh, either the DNC wins or the RNC wins. They're both awful, and so I don't want either to win! Oh, you picked a team? You're terrible and so is your team! But that's not reality.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
I'll tell it to Johnny Noviello and Jesus Molina-Veya. No wait, I can't do that. They're dead. They wouldn't be dead if Harris were the President. But to you, their lives didn't matter.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
I did, because I wanted to save the lives of trans people, immigrants, and underprivileged people worldwide. You, apparently, didn't want that. You seem to be equating choosing a candidate with ownership, as opposed to making the choice which is better for the most people. A strange worldview.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
Voters didn't fail a political party. Voters failed America, Americans, immigrants, and people worldwide. Each individual got to make a choice. There was a better choice and a worse choice. There was a choice that would save 14 million lives, and a choice that would lead to 14 million deaths.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "your candidate." I do not have possession nor ownership of any politician or political candidate.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, the voters get to evaluate which candidate is better, and then choose the one they prefer. Some people wanted to save 14 million lives worldwide, some wanted those people to die, and some people thought both of those options were exactly the same.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
It's true, and it's really awesome that not voting for her fixed the problem entirely! Otherwise, the people who didn't vote for her because of that would look pretty silly right now.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, no, it's good that people chose to let 14 million people die worldwide due to USAid cuts in order to do (checks how things are going) absolutely nothing to help Gaza. This was the intelligent and moral choice, and it's going to continue working out perfectly.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
You've got to understand - everybody was just so passionate about ending the genocide in Gaza that they couldn't bring themselves to vote for Harris. And as you can see, that's worked out exceptionally well for the Palestinians!

Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
You are right - opinions that are right-of-center that aren't given by Republicans are exempt from your premise. In this case, such opinions would be evaluated on their own merits, rather than just being dismissed as lies.
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
"Let’s accept your premise that the GOP is lies and liars top to bottom." You wrote that. My comment was accepting that premise, as you suggested. Instead of putting words into my mouth (words that you yourself said), would you like to point out any inconsistency in my statement?
Nick Rollins (@treerol.bsky.social) reply parent
Let me reframe that question, using the premise you are accepting here: Is it justified to banish all patently and demonstrably untrue perspectives from the newspaper? Doesn't that answer itself? In fact, if we framed it the other way (is it justified to publish lies?) it'd seem absurd.
