Also if it does happen the ones I want to hear from afterwards are the bouncers, and especially whoever escorted the people (hopefully well compensated sex workers) wandering the floor wearing color-coded "please maul me and I'll give detailed feedback later if you've paid thousands" wristbands.

I find it oddly funny that this supposed event - and I'm incredibly suspicious whether it will both be remotely as described and be permitted to happen by local authorities, their landlord, and for that matter by vendors - isn't in Las Vegas but in "East Bay CA" (presumably near where she lives?).

The last paragraph is incredibly telling: to the extent there was ever an argument for novelty and the ability to get the children engaged, that had completely worn off, the kids who bothered with it at all just wanted to use it to actually *decrease* their engagement, to avoid thinking or writing.
Warren Terra (@warrenterra.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't even have kids, which means it's literally impossible for me to explain equal marriage to my kids. But did the equal marriage advocates ever think about *that*?

I can't help but be suspicious about traffic on (mostly) text-based microblogging sites when I haven't heard Threads mentioned in months, and when X/Twitter's big feature is that they have LLMs to chat to their users who can't otherwise get the engagement they want. (though also, their users suck)

But the story claims that he stuck around and hobnobbed with the cops and then later after it was all over and he'd driven away some speed demon rammed him from behind. Even if every word of the story were true and there's camera footage, it's not relevant. Also: very skeptical re the crash.

On the one hand if it happened there should be a police report. On the other hand, even if it did happen (which, lol) then that was earlier and elsewhere and not relevant to him supposedly getting rear-ended.

Why does a guy who's bankrupt and being sued by his last business partner have a new business partner and, in that statement, a 'head of security'? Also, what possible relevance could his supposed rescue of a distraught woman have to him allegedly getting rear-ended later and elsewhere?

Post-reproductive fitness has only a limited selective effect (thus, genetic diseases that have horrible effects in later life can be more common more easily than those similarly afflicting kids). By definition men only turn into dads, and start doing Dad Jokes, after they have already had kids.

There is a vile eugenics idea behind MAHA, that anyone who is truly patriotic will be strong and healthy, and anyone who succumbs to illness or relies on a crutch like medical care is morally flawed and unpatriotic. Letting COVID or Measles or bacteria in raw milk wreak havoc is doing God's work.

The French guy (Didier Raoult) was chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, at least initially, I think the ivermectin was some other quack. But there's an element of ideology that's important. The various magic silver bullet snake oil salesmen, like Raoult, didn't really have it.

The entire point here is that Lorenz is happily spreading Nazi-originated conspiracy theories about Jews and Israel, obviously nonsense when applied to either and applied to both interchangeably. And broadening the scope to authoritarians more generally, its extremely characteristic that scientific fact and indeed the process of doing science, with its skepticism and uncertainty, should be discarded in favor of more ideologically sound proclamations about how the world really ought to work.

Did Lysenko ever have the (truly willing) support of scientists? As I recall Lysenko just had an initial unconfirmed result (maybe even real, who knows) and a theoretical explanation for it that was extremely ideologically sound, that was utterly sweeping in scope, and that the commisars loved.
Warren Terra (@warrenterra.bsky.social) reply parent
RFK would be playing the Stalin role here, or some intermediary government minister, the Lysenko role requires a pretension to scientific theory and even supposedly having done experiments.
Warren Terra (@warrenterra.bsky.social) reply parent
Bhattacharya has been auditioning for the role for years. And really what could be more Lysenko than unleashing upon a nation an untested, disastrously lethal theory that has zero scientific basis but is extremely sound ideologically, should really work if the world were as they insist it must be?

She fucking well retweeted a 4chan post saying it's Israel (and the version she retweeted had a word blacked out - in the original, a vicious antisemitic slur word that in modern times is used exclusively by Nazis). So, it's "likely" she was referencing Israel, she quite explicitly was doing that.

Trump got more votes in California losing by twenty points than he did in 14 states that he won, *combined*.
Warren Terra (@warrenterra.bsky.social) reply parent
The thing about California being huge is that a Republican can get whalloped there and still get more votes than in pretty much any state but Texas or Florida. Trump lost California by 20 points, and just *barely* got fewer votes than in Texas or in Florida, each of which he won by almost 15 points.

Her Wikipedia page says she is (or was recently) flat broke, so she may badly need to maintain her access to the sorts of sinecures available to someone like her: corporate boards, university gigs from lectures to presidencies, etc. An angry GOP could presumably blackball her from most of that.
Warren Terra (@warrenterra.bsky.social) reply parent
Because of the usual line about "spend more time with their family" I looked at the 'personal life' section of her Wikipedia page: she isn't rich, she's divorced, and her (alleged) romantic relationships are with aides and lobbyists, presumably she'd have fewer opportunities for that out of office.
Warren Terra (@warrenterra.bsky.social) reply parent
The entire west coast of the contiguous United States uses mail ballots, which obviously doesn't involve presenting an ID. It's popular, it increases participation (and gives the voter more opportunity to research more obscure offices and ballot measures), and it isn't a source of voter fraud.
