@zackdavisson.com I thought I had finished Yurei, then I saw I had a number of translations to enjoy. That was a delightful surprise! [Will remember to place skulls in trees while on walks]

I liked Marvels, but it also felt pretty cut up. I'm working my way through CA: BNW, but it has the unfortunate luck of following Thunderbolts.

I’m finally watching the Animated Series and it’s been surprisingly fun, kinda TOS on a diet. But there was a lovely scene in “The Lorelei Signal” where it was just Enterprise moving silently across the screen with James Doohan singing. It’s simply wonderful. youtu.be/Ifo9f4ft3i4?...

Then at some point, when the Publisher may feel it's not worth its time and money, they will let the copyright revert back to the author to do with whatever they wish.
Ross Brown (@wolfesghost.bsky.social) reply parent
The right answer depends on what your contract says. I know for the academic side, I've seen contracts have the copyright go to the publisher, but in turn, publisher agrees to enforce it on behalf of itself and the author.

The cost did seem justifiable, between the staffing and the tech, but having it thrown in my face as blatant advertising of something I can't do, over and over, it was ugh! In a small degree, it's like having to walk through first class to get to your cramped uncomfortable seat on a long plane ride.

Context! We know she knows that the rich and powerful had the means to memorialize over time, so by default, that means she's referring to everyone who wasn't them. But in any other context, your response definitely was fine.

We have at least one in our possession, a cousin who died hundreds of miles away, so the rest of the family couldn't be there for the visitation/funeral. So someone took a photo and sent it so everyone had that last image to remember him by.
Ross Brown (@wolfesghost.bsky.social) reply parent
In hearing a discussion about death photos in Appalachia, this idea of having no other memories come up. It may seem ghastly today, but taking a photo of a loved one in their coffin was going to be the last photo you get, and it may be the only photo you get of that individual.

It's not really ironic, it's a long standing intentional reference to governmental power. The viewer is intended to see them and recognize this individual held some sort of position of authority. This is also why they decorate the congressional chambers, a symbol of Congress' authority.
