No. The timing of Ernst's decision coincided with Dem Catelin Drey winning a state senate special election in a blood red district. Trump won it by 11 points in Nov, so Drey’s margin of victory, currently about 10 points, represents a 21-point swing to Democrats. I reckon that really spooked Ernst.

Perhaps, but it could be something simpler. I think he's like Trump -- no beliefs, no empathy, but doesn't strike me as possessing the cruelty gene. His previous "You should say thank you" to Zelensky got him a lot of attention. I suspect he's just waving that flag again to see who salutes it.

Global investments in renewable energy doubled over the last 10 years and is by far the dominant investment. Oil investments dropped by a third in the last 10 years. Investment in coal is now only a third of renewable investments. And Trump has basically shut the US door on renewables.
