I'm almost positive it was historically referred to as East Seattle before "the eastside" took on a similar nomenclature.
How does the law determine what needs a SEPA analysis and what doesn't? This seems like a simple change to SEPA law, but maybe I'm underestimating that undertaking.
I spoke with a developer literally this morning who told me uncertainty is a bigger barrier to building anything (housing, office, life sciences, data centers, etc) than high interest rates/high building costs/etc.

I donāt get the fuss. They do a lot of good work in Pioneer Square and Iām incredibly grateful for the stuff they take care of. Itās possible the city could provide the same services, but Iām doubtful.

It's really disappointing that just two months ago Katie posted this thread on city-owned grocery stores, and today calls Kroger greedy for closing the Lake City FM (Kroger net profit was 1.4% in 2023). Who would want to open a biz in a city where leaders are calling owners greedy on a 1.4% margin?
I think social shame is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here, and that's great. No one wants to be around these cars unless they're at a racetrack, otherwise they're obnoxious and everyone knows it.

Met with a guy last night who operates a service that makes ADU siting in Seattle easy. He said bare minimum price for an ADU is $300k š. Who is building these besides new construction builders?!

Never forget when OPCD included zones (inside historically marginalized communities) with lower FAR and greater setbacks in the initial comp plan proposal, all to the prevent ādisplacementā and effectively lowering home values.

Interesting perspective. The townhomes we have in Seattle have similar floor plans and about the same SF for the larger ones.
So many bad intersections like this on The Hill. 10th Ave E and E Thomas have similar issues

I used to work as a recruiter and you'd be surprised at how many people provided "references" who wouldn't provide a positive reference. It does feel antiquated, but is a pretty low bar and I think that's why it's kept around.

I had the wildest transit experience on the 7. Woman gets on, clearly with mental health issues. Takes off her shirt and bra and lights a cigar. Gets off later on Rainier Ave. No one said anything to her and I don't think it would have mattered.
I do wonder if a Wilson administration would/could do much about this? Or if this is mostly WSDOTās doing and SDOT isnāt pointing fingers?

SDOT put in what looked like real bollards in Pioneer Square, but they've already been hit and destroyed a few times since this Spring and they're all hollow metal tubes š. Even the "real" ones aren't real!

This is such an important part of the conversation surrounding rent freezes. Building maintenance and taxes DO NOT also freeze when rents are frozen. Like most things over time, those costs also increase. Itās impossible to run a building, long-term, on frozen rents.

I was thinking something like a ādemolition by neglectā would eventually happen. These buildings arenāt financially sound at their existing vacancies and will turn out like the Mamas building in Belltown.
Every one of their posts is lamenting the ādestructionā of some crumbling duplex thatās getting torn down for a ācorporate development schemeā. Meanwhile, itās actually a slumlord dump thatās getting turned into 150 units with 25% of those income restricted.
It's funny you ask that. The developers did buy a view easement from the parking lot behind to protect views in perpetuity, but they must not have purchased, or been able to purchase, a similar easement from this building.
Mikeās thread, and the recent Mercer Island ruling, proves my theory that cities arenāt qualified to run their own comp planning process. At the very least, the state should significantly reduce a the role cities play in this process.
The conspiracist in me thinks Historic Seattle wants this deal to flop so they can pick this building up on the cheap when it inevitably is sold for pennies. I don't know what they would do with it, but they do own a fair share of buildings with a mixture of uses.
This could maybe work in a place like KC/Detroit/St. Louis where thereās a surplus of vacant lots, but most cities with any real demand donāt have vacant lots. Itās not a real solution, but could possibly work in some circumstances. I also have no faith in local govts to effectively build at scale

She came out against the Northgate plan because it provided very little housing. Can't say I know much else about her housing stance, but that's one point in her favor.
If people did the math on the time savings vs gas savings of "going fast" they would never go fast again. Most of our trips are so short anyways that 55 vs 70 or 45 vs 50 is basically meaningless.

There's a resident of Seattle (with 2 sign-on plaintiffs) over it's use of IZ (we call it MHA here). Their take is that it's unconstitutional and the fees are arbitrary. Hopeful that this finds in favor of plaintiffs and deems IZ illegal.

Really aggressive speed bumps seem to be the only way to actually slow down these lunatics (and not the humps that really donāt do much).
I would expect King5 to at least ask for revenue figures to back up his claims that "They aren't coming because they don't want to hassle with it." It's possible, but seems so unlikely that there's a major (or even minor!) drop in revenue from this change.
