It would easy to prove me wrong — all folks have to do is point to one policy that they think Newsom would never compromise on for the sake of political expediency, or more importantly, which group he could push under the bus that they would say was a bridge too far. They never name any names.
That’s the thing — it’s not satire if it’s done by somebody promoting the same policies, who has no actual principles.That’s the key point here that people are missing. Someone talking like MAGA while hoping people won’t notice he preyed on a teen girl & platforms Charlie Kirk… is just MAGA.
Listen. I think that’s where we start to get the really uncomfortable bits about gender and whiteness and the status of being a soccer mom type. Some of the answer is that parents want it this way because they want to be the family with a mom who drives kids to school.
It is beyond wild to me that there is zero coverage of "Workers over Billionaires" rallies anywhere on The New York Times or The Washington Post right now. This is a colossal failure in journalism. Mainstream media can't just pretend that hundreds of thousands of protesters don't exist
they like Trump and want to help him and telling the many, many people who understand the world through the filter of the NY Times or Washington Post that the real world is full of anti-Trump protesters would not help Trump or help him win.
I started this thread with multiple examples of things that are working *better* and there are many more. What on earth is “working” about “say the same things as Trump while supporting the same policies on trans people, the unhoused, immigration, alt-right media, and creeping on teenagers”?
There are 1000x as many stories (and public conversations) demanding statements and opinions about Zohran’s view on something he’s never said than there are about Republicans — and the GOP-embracing dems in NYC — explicitly espousing white-supremacist views. Sliwa has never been asked about it once.

I think in many cases they don’t actually even disagree that much, they just want slightly different aesthetics. It seems like many of the most enthusiastic Newsom fans are white women, and we see them back Cuomo as well, long after he’s lost the nomination and revealed his Trump alliance.

A useful question is: what is this accomplishing, and for whom? What is the principle it’s advancing?
I outlined three more effective strategies than “act like a fascist”. It is not ideological purity to demand that we not sacrifice trans kids, or the unhoused. But if you say it’s necessary to sacrifice human lives, how about yours instead of theirs? Is that fair, then?

The stakes are too high when we are under authoritarian rule, we can’t indulge such flights of ego. Contrast to so many other examples. AOC has been showing clarity for years. Pritzker demonstrates an appeal to moderates who crave respectability. And Mamdani nails message and points the way forward.
Not gonna belabor this too much, but it’s important to understand that Newsom’s public messaging sucks for *two* reasons: it serves as an advertisement for Trump by aping his tone and content, and it also reminds us that Newsom has no principles other than seeking power & attention. This is failure.
Supermarkets have sections for gluten-free, vegan/vegetarian and so on. Restaurants increasingly flag these things on menus, too. For the ~50% of America that pre-diabetic of diabetic, however, good luck trying to easily identify which foods and meals won’t spike blood sugar.

Similarly, almost nobody owns a gun in NYC, and there are ~10 million of us here. So people are cherry-picking the most alarmist stories, and also listening to the Americans who think only red staters are “real” Americans.
This is all pretty specific to geography. That is a question that is admittedly common in the south, but even growing up in a very conservative small town in the north, nobody ever asked that. (There was definitely prejudice against non-Christians, but it was more subtle.)

This “explicit” is a weird editorial choice. The constitution gives the president no power over this at all. It’s not ambiguous.
Just for the record, Trump can’t do this. The constitution is very clear that the times, places, and manners of elections for federal office are up to each state, but can be altered by Congress. The president has no role here, except to sign into law or veto a bill that congress passes to do this.
