Newsom is putting up a referendum to add 5-6 Democratic House districts in California to offset the power grab in Texas, and also got a win in federal court that decided Trump’s military occupation of LA was illegal. Have any other Dems besides him and Pritzker done anything as concrete as that?
But I swear I put the grocery cart in the designated area and didn’t just abandon it in the middle of the parking lot.
And on top of that, I’m sorry, but the guy is simply unlistenable with that grotesque voice. If he were a decent person I’d ignore it, but on top of everything else, I refuse to give him a pass. Being a terrible communicator is one more reason that he’s not qualified to do that job.

I hadn’t subscribed to NPR for a while, but decided to resubscribe because of the funding cuts and because we need all the independent reporting we can get in this era of corporate media selling out to Trump’s extortion.

Just yesterday, California won a key decision in a suit filed by Newsom and state AG Rob Bonta that Trump’s use of military troops in Los Angeles was illegal. It’s not fair to say that he’s doing nothing. That was a big deal and he deserves credit for it.
Newsom is doing what he can, but he’s also not a thug like Greg Abbott or Ron Desantis. California voters need to do their part, too.
Newsom has taken an important concrete step of redrawing California’s congressional districts in response to the the move by Texas Republicans to gain 5-6 House seats through redrawing their own congressional maps. He’s maybe one of two or three Dem governors who’s done much of anything so far.
In the short term, people on the liberal/progressive side need to put the petty squabbling on hold until they can defeat MAGA extremism. Until then, tearing down every Dem leader who tries to resist because they’re not ideologically pure enough is self-defeating.
After hearing Republicans piously talk about their supposed “culture of life” over multiple decades, can people in the press just admit once and for all that it’s just a charade? In reality, life is cheap to these people. They demonstrate it all the damn time.

We saw it in Los Angeles, and we’re quickly seeing it sweep the nation. When Donald Trump exerted blanket authority to commandeer the National Guard, that was just the beginning. Democracy is under assault before our eyes, and we have to do all we can to stop this madness.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I look for people to put my trust in, I always look for people with long track records of substance abuse and relationship infidelity who’ve been disowned by their own families. Those are signs of, uh, real integrity.
