I really think “the neutral” just wants to be entertained and when they’re not entertained they default to blaming Mikel for that. And it doesn’t matter what’s best for Arsenal. They’re just throwing a tantrum.
People just think merino was a conservative choice. And I sort of agree. But they’re unable to properly characterize why that’s the case. Arsenal weren’t setup defensively nor did we play defensively. Mikel just didn’t pick as risky an attacking lineup as he could have.

I think Lfc not getting guehi would actually be a big issue for them. It creates a situation where any VVD/Konate injury could derail their season.
Arteta’s biggest issue today was that he waited about 10 min too long for the odegaard and eze subs. So…. Yeah I guess you can get stuck in to that. And I’ll tell you this much for free: a fit saka changes this game but I wouldn’t want to be accused of making “excuses”
Any critique of Arteta playing a cagey gameplan would have to be levelled at Slot, who did the same — except with all his best players, at Anfield. Anything else is post hoc fallacy.
I’d appreciate anyone explaining to me (in rational human communication not tribal social media idiot brain), how Lfc “played to win” & we “played not to lose.” Even if you believe we were more conservative than we should’ve been, you must at minimum apply the same logic to them
Some of their most important players are well past 30. They have AFCON to navigate. Their midfield is still thin, and they have vulnerabilities at full back. As impressive as they are (and they are!), if injuries settle down, I still see Arsenal and Liverpool competing for the title to the end.
Liverpool have a formidable squad and they’re easily favorites for the title. Setting aside bitterness and tribalism, it’s impressive how well they’ve managed to stay competitive at the top of the PL for so long now. But they still have vulnerabilities & luck will play a big part

I understand the frustration that we didn’t have more time with Eze & odegaard on the pitch. We should have imo. But there was no adventure/risk from Lfc either. It was a cagey game because of both teams. Not just Arsenal. Why the demand for us to go play basketball at Anfield?

Plenty to debate about that game but If we don’t stop averaging one player lost to injury per game, none of it is gonna matter anyway. We’ve become so used to playing without our best players that we don’t even really consider it as a factor anymore.

I’m not sure I love the idea of having 30% of the ball & under sustained pressure. & with that lineup i don’t think we have the players to keep the ball & relieve pressure. more suited to counter attacks & playing for set pieces. Will have ways to change it from the bench though
I said Friday I thought we could see a Zubi, rice, merino midfield + Nelli, Gyok and noni up front. It’s a lineup that gives us a chance to win the physical battle in midfield like Newcastle did. And to sprint away against their vulnerable fullbacks. But… very low possession
