His politics are so indistinguishable from that of the average Republican that 94% of them voted for him. "Even former Republicans" is not a meaningful argument for current Republicans, who do not like Cheney, and independents, who also do not like Cheney.

There's no reason to believe that a hard left contingent staying home was what caused Kamala to lose. It is posthoc cope stemming from seeing people on the left correctly note her terrible campaign choices as they were happening.
A Tribe Called Kvetch, PhD (@atribecalledkvetch.bsky.social) reply parent
It was, indeed, an obvious misstep to backpedal on calling the candidate that 94% of Republicans voted for in 2020 a fascist by saying you will work with unpopular Republicans and bring them into your government. You being upset that it didn't work has nothing to do with TikTok.

The "post-COVID anti-incumbent surge" is not a function of the other things you listed. It's not even a function of COVID, if you're being honest with yourself, seeing as it did not manifest in elections in 2021, 2022, or 2023. The other things you listed were not unique to 2024 in any way.
A Tribe Called Kvetch, PhD (@atribecalledkvetch.bsky.social) reply parent
As much as I'd like to believe people on social media noting Harris was actively tying herself to unpopular conservatives and the unpopular incumbent was a bad idea was somehow effective at derailing a billion dollar presidential campaign, I've not yet sustained that much brain damage.

A Tribe Called Kvetch, PhD (@atribecalledkvetch.bsky.social) reply parent
At some point you're going to have to grapple with the fact that this 'good message' failed to either depress Dem turnout, and failed to change the share of independents and Republicans voting Dem.
A Tribe Called Kvetch, PhD (@atribecalledkvetch.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump won 88% and 94% of Republicans in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Did this messaging work in 2024 to convince voters across the aisle to vote for Harris, and if so, by how much?
A Tribe Called Kvetch, PhD (@atribecalledkvetch.bsky.social) reply parent
You claim trying to appeal to Republicans ('across the aisle') by campaigning with Cheney was a good message. I was offering some context for how well previous candidates have done without campaigning with Liz Cheney, and asking how well you think her message did across the aisle. Do you know?
