I wonder about politicians, most especially “conservatives” these days, as to whether they actually believe that the positions they publicly espouse are good or they’re just overcommitted to the bit.

Maybe the consultants are not actually trying to help the Democrats. Maybe the consultants are secretly fascists.

Donald Trump is waging a fascist takeover of the United States. Democrats are responding the only way they know how: by heeding the advice of the wonks who helped get them into this situation — and whose advice is to avoid discussing what Trump is doing. More: www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

If Obama or Biden had said this, it would be rightfully understood as them arrogating dictatorial authority to themselves, it would be the only thing anyone in the media or opposition would talk about for a year, and it would probably end their presidency. For Trump, it’s literally just Tuesday.

Cullen Chandler (@chandlerprof.bsky.social) reply parent
I get it. At the end of the day, you’re voting for a person, not a list of policies on a platform. I think it’s why Kerry didn’t do well. Or even Gore as a follow up to Clinton, even though that outcome was as close as can be—arguably cooked. A “better” personality might have won, hands down.
