Generally, the European leaders who argue for the "don't get spun up about everything Russia does" do not seem to realise that this decreases their credibility in the eyes of their own electorate, and simultanenously in the eyes of Putin and Russia. For once, in public, stand up to them - respond.

Yeah. It doesn't mean erasing history, and I do not think old flags should be removed from exhibits etc. etc...just like buildings with swastikas put on them for centuries prior to Nazis shouldn't be scrubbing them. Some symbols have multiple meanings and lineages, this is one of them.
Perhaps more as a comment of current US Administration, I do wonder if some in the Trump sphere wouldn't give a good discount on the F-35s coming here, if a swastika was painted on them? ;-) In any case, tradition is good but this was past its due, so glad swastika will be gone.
The FAF planes haven't had swastikas since WWII, but it was retained as a symbol on clothes and flags. It has over the years caused some issues, though mainly air forces the FAF worked with "got it". A few years ago when the previous effort to remove it was dropped "tradition" won over pragmatism
