It should be common. My band has a single coming out for which I wrote the melody & lyrics but I insisted on registering 50% of songwriting credit to the lead guitarist, cuz his hooky riff & monster outro solo are literally half the piece. Whether we make any money isn't the issue; it's only fair.

Absolutely agree about Andy Serkis LOTR audiobooks! On a less epic scale, Hugh Fraser's versions of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot novels are same "listening to the filmed version" experience, because Captain Hastings is reading to you & Fraser does a near-perfect mimic of David Suchet as Poirot.

Much as I love Joan Hickson, none of the tv/film versions I've seen of Marple fully do justice to the source material (i.e. what Christie actually wrote). Also, why invent LGB subplots for tv when they're in the books: A Murder Is Announced has a moving portrayal of what is clearly a lesbian couple.
Citizeness Kane (@citizenesskane.bsky.social) reply parent
What really gets me about the novel is that the (hetero) murder couple kill an innocent Girl Guide & then disguise her corpse as a showgirl & *mutilate her face* to cover up their crime. People who call Christie "cozy" apparently haven't read the books....
Citizeness Kane (@citizenesskane.bsky.social) reply parent
Citizeness Kane (@citizenesskane.bsky.social) reply parent
I love that Marple is always right simply bc she's so clear-eyed about people. Others may dismiss her as an "old cat", but she knows what's up (even openly referring to topics like abortion w/o judgment). The plots can be shockingly vicious, e.g. Body in the Library, but MM is a quiet avenging angel
