Like some of the bands back then had super leftist members and sometimes you see that reflected in the lyrics, but a lot of that probably has more to do with how rooted in thrash 1st wave black metal was tbh

I don’t think liking Falling in Reverse is what makes someone a poser. I think believing they are “a good example of metal” does. Or at the very least it makes them completely ignorant of what metal is and what good music sounds like.

I would say: Black/death describes any combo of the two, blackened death is a specific sound within that sphere that probably sounds something like 2000s Behemoth or Belphegor, and Black Death is just Darkthrone’s old name

I found a tool online that lets you transfer them, although it’s unfortunately not free. It was a big help in me quitting Spotify for Apple Music (since places like Tidal have a smaller catalog and don’t let you add local files to fill the gaps)

Another of the heavy metal releases and at this point that sound is starting to wear thin. This album doesn’t feel as fun or as interesting as the last couple, the riffs don’t hit quite as hard, and the whole vibe is just lacking. Not bad, but a step down 6/10

The problem is that this role fucking sucks to play for the deviant party lol. At least if they’re being genuine and good faith about stuff and not just trolling, which is its own thing
People can reaffirm their own beliefs by seeing and coming into conflict with the deviance, and can better understand WHY they think the things they do. Or maybe they decide to change certain opinions or expand their viewpoint based on seeing things in a new light
I think one of the most interesting roles I’ve played here is as a useful deviance. Someone who disagrees with a lot of the common takes here and often has different tastes and ways of approaching music, and is knowledgeable and argumentative enough to discuss these disagreements with others

The idea of being open minded and listening to EVERY type of music is well intentioned but misguided. & often problematic. It's loaded with assumptions about what it means if you don't listen to everything & then tries to bully you into adopting some socially acceptable mix tape of artists & genres.
Are you big on Hellenic BM like Rotting Christ and Varathron?
Yeah it’s more of a mix between the two than something like power metal (or thrash if we go in the opposite direction) that leans way more to one side and I find that really interesting
Obviously there’s still a lot of overtly fantasy themed songs out there and it’s still a perfectly common theme in the genre, especially in USPM. I just found it interesting that it wasn’t necessarily as inherent to the genre as I originally thought
I used to think heavy metal was about as fantasy-oriented as power metal, but honestly the more I listen to, the less that feels like the case. There’s lots of songs out there with more grounded and “real” lyrics than I’d initially realized. Maybe that has to do with the punk influences or something
Death metal with black metal aesthetics. Raw and chaotic and harsh stuff. Super evil sounding. The riffs are sick and I love the vocals. Incredible production too. Also super connected to the 90s USBM scene, which explains a lot about why this sounds the way it does. Highly recommended

Kinda yeah but what I mean is that Euronymous is notoriously unreliable and often just said shit just to get attention. He really cannot be taken at his word about a lot of things. And yeah Venom was influential on the genre aesthetically. But the genre was built on a lot more than them too
Being in on the gag is what makes bands like that suck tho. Like yeah black metal is silly and cheesy in theory but the second the bands actually acknowledge that or act self aware it loses all fun. It’s why Old Nick is so bad

Cradle deserves the hate but Dimmu has some legit stuff. For All Tid is a trve and good album and treating it like it’s the same as Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is just silly
