It sucks what happened to him, and I'm glad he's trying to redeem himself . . . but why didn't he take Trump at his word? Why did he favorably interpret Trump's words. I believe he didn't think it would affect him. He understimated the real racism of Trump and his enablers to his own detriment.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
So, anotherwords, yes.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Once again they're deflecting instead of answering the question. It has become typical for GOP to blame mental health even as they cut resources for it.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
A sign of the times that journalists are hell bent on defending Trump's polcies but they won't criticise him. Did she once address the cost?
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
This is what lack of leadership from Republicans looks like. Just kiss Trump's ass and move on.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Misleading statement. There are many gun laws supported by large majorities of gun owners. GOP opposes even common sense laws, and scare the very gun owners you are concerned about w/lies that the govt intends to come after all of their guns. None of which is true.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I disgree with you polls. We kow they are popular; our friends said so. So, fuck the polls, he'll believe what he wants to.

Surprised cops didn't use existence of weed to illegally search them. Though use on "public streets" is illegal, it is not illegal to own or possess. DC ppl passed a law allowing sale and use of weed; a GOP Congress later restricted those provisions (just in DC). Why it needs DC statehood.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, but my concern is that its use will be all but eliminated next year. RFKs conspiracy mentality suggests to me that he may ban its use to protect all the "sheeple" that accept its scientific validity as a vaccine.

Wes Moore leading in the moment. Thanks Gov Moore. We need more strong democrats like this.

SOP from GOP will be Deflect, Deflect, Deflect. That's the only tool left in their propaganda toolkit

Abt 85-90% of added capacity is from renewables over last 5 yrs. As costs of battery tech declines, renewable energy become more dispatchable (ie. available at all times of the day). Recently, solar has become cost cometitive w/natural gas plants. They've all been cheaper than coal for awhile.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
This has been the case for more than a decade. The LCOE of renewables has continued to decline, while the cost of natural gas and coal fired plants has remained the same or increased. That's why in the US alone added capacity has come mostly from renewables.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
All of this means Covid and other vaccine shots could be at real risk next year. There may be a large market for people going to places like Canada to get Covid vaccine shots. Maybe I'm overreacting but that feels like where we are headed.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Pretty glaring to me that the first Fed board member they go after, aside from Chairman Powell, is a black woman. I expect the other woman, Michelle Bowman, to be next. This administration is very racist and misogynist. anti-DEI is clearly pro-white supremacist.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
While the rest of the world moves forward on renewable, and carbon neutral energy, the US is moving backward. This will affect America's standing as an innovative leader for decades to come.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
They insisted on charging him with a felony even though a felony charge was clearly not defensible or justified. It's classic overreach. They could have easily charged him with a misdemeanor. The memes write themselves, however.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Incompetence is part of it. But, I think they're so determined to throw the book at ppl that they're unwilling to pursue less serious, but more defensible, misdemeanor charges. I'm glad they aren't doing either, but this fits into "the cruelty is all that matters" category.

Your last comment suggests my power and power of Democratic leaders is the same. It is not. You know this. We can shout till blue in the face; it won't have same effect as someone w/actual power doing so. That's what leadership is abt.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
--I made no effort to defend white leaders, have indicated in multiple posts my greater frustration w/Schumer. I guess you see me lumping Jeffries into leadership as racially motivated anger at a black man. It is not. He's a memer of leadership, and my anger is broadly aimed at all of them.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
--Schumer stabbed Dems in back, inc Jeffries. tbh I'm more angry at Schumer than Jeffries. --I haven't contacted Jeffries office, mainly bc he's doing a better job than Schumer, & leading more often in constructive ways --I was merely responding to post abt Jeffries bc I consider him a Dem leader
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
--I'm frustrated that I feel Dem leadership isn't doing much that is constructive. --I know how govt works; GOP somehow manages to gum up works better than Dems --I have reached out. Mainly to Dem Senators and to ask them to drop Schumer as leader. I hope he's primaried.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a really weird response. You framed this as me. I can't speak for those that "need a reason." I can't get into their head; many are low info/non voters. Is response directed at them? Or at me for thinking we need to reach out to them. If you think we shouldn't try . . . GOP agrees

What does what she says abt Trump even matter. Sus that they only asked abt that. Why not just release the files? We don't have to believe or not believe her.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I thought both Pritzger, Moore did a better job pushing back and against GOP talking points. Jeffries lost me when he validated some GOP talking points. Saying Dems care abt crime misses the point. If it were just abt crime, they'd be sending NG to Red states too. Totally racist deployment strategy
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
On NYC, Cuomo represents everything wrong w/Dem party in general. On cities, Pritzger, Moore, & Jeffries all talked abt current/planned military occupation of cities. I can't evaluate Schumer's comments, since I haven't seen them.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't think this gives Americans a reason to resist, or to vote Dem. I think people like Mamdani have the right msg, and tho leadership endorsed Mamdani's msg, including Jeffries, I feel like thy are validating too many GOP talking points. I'd rather they say nothing than to undermine Mamdani
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
However, I don't think we should be validating GOP talking points, and I feel like the main strategy being deployed by leadership is the Carville doctrine, which is to sit back, do nothing, and let the GOP implode and destroy their own brand. I think this is shortsighted.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Let me ask a different question. What do you think Dem leadership should be doing? And by leadership, I mean Schumer, Jeffries, and whomever you think qualifies as leadership. I recognize that all of them are constrained in what they can do, since we are the minority party in Congress.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent

True, but he has a large following and influences ppl. The young men I am referring to have their hearts in the right place, w/o the problem of arrested devt. They should be given larger platforms so that they can continue to do what they do, w/hopefully a larger audience and platform themselves.

I worked on that crew for a year and half b4 leaving Tx. Sorry, I won't mention names for who I know now; just that it is still fairly diverse, and includes more Muslims and ppl from India than previously.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
We would then watch what direction they went. Nearly everyone believed me over him . . black or white. Sometimes black cust. would ask again, and we'd both sing true. He predicted it would happen that way. I didn't believe him. It was an eye opening experience.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Anytime white person would ask us where to find items in store, I would lie, he would be true. If they were black, we would reverse, he would lie, I would be true. Our lied directions were always opposite direction of truth.

I worked on a grocery stock crew that was 90% black. I was only white guy, with 1 Hispanic. I saw racism first hand @ the groc store, and it was never directed @ me. Tim, another friend on the crew, and I did an experiment once. We stocked ailes in tandem.

I never said race doesn't matter. Just that it wasn't behind my critique of Jeffries. You suggested it was. In fact, I did say I thought race was a primary factor in Harris' loss. Not once did I say race doesn't matter ever, or in general.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm still struggling with why they think Cracker Barrell's new logo is "woke" I just don't see. Only response I can think of is:
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
They challenged me a lot to question my political assumptions about a lot of things. You won't know them however. I knew them back when I lived in Texas and was a Republican. My dad was a bigger influence, but I didn't get to know him till I left TX. They both encouraged me to leave TX.

Howard Smith. A black man I attended college with. He and I disgareed signficiantly. I was always on the losing side of the arguments. He's who put me on my path to being a white liberal you disdain so much. I credit he and Reggie Washington for who I am today.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Whatever dude. Black people are a very diverse group, just as w/any group, I was simply mentioning some in positions of power. You're correct; I read nothing you said indicating you're happy w/anyone. My mistake. I don't have to agree w/everyone I follow, but I won't follow MAGA. They're toxic.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd also add Rep. Maxwell Frost to that list too.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Not sure why that's interesting. I don't follow everything, and I don't consider a person in his postion to be a leader of the party. I consider, Jeffries, Schumer, Obama, Biden and Harris to be leaders of the party. Pelosi was, but I'm glad she stepped aside. I wish she would reitre.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't consider him a leader of the party, but if he is, he's doing a shit job too. Schumer is a leader and he's doing a shit job? But the OP was abt Jeffries, not these wastes of space.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I listen, respect what Crockett says, agree w/near all of it. Same w/Booker, Chris Bouzy. So, why is being unhappy w/Jeffries not listening to black ppl? Mostly, you've said it's a white problem, not a black one. You're happy w/what he's doing, I'm not as happy.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
As far as I'm concerned he's not a leader of the party. The Democratic leaders of the House and Senate are. But, if I'm supposed to care, he's obviously done a shitty job since I don't even know who he is.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Major problem with message testing is the assumption that low salience messages aren't effective or meaningful. It just means they're less salient in front of a lot of people. It also assumes you can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Trump's approach to immigration is absolutley turning off ppl
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I read his op ed and still disagreed with it. GOP would have done the opposite, were they the minority party. But, it's not just that issue that has me angry. Schumer is stuck in the past, and we have an authoritarian govt in power. He keeps acting like they'll just start playing fair at some point.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
What's the point of being leader, if you aren't going to lead. I guess you just have lower expectations for your leaders. Sounds very James Carville to me. He also preaches Dems sitting back on their heals and doing nothing, and then hoping ppl vote Dem. Carville needs to retire, just like Schumer.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
yes, and Jeffries style served him well during last admin; he did an excellent job keeping caucus together at that time. But, backroom deals don't help us now. The moment is asking for more from Dem leadership. At least Jeffries didn't stab the Dem caucus in the back like Schumer did Mar/Apr.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
If Jeffries agrees w/you, he can always step down as leader of the House. I wouldn't fault him for doing so, nor would I begrudge him/you for stepping back. I wouldn't be angry at him if he chose that path. I realize a lot of black folks risk more if they are in the streets.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Be in the streets w/folks in DC. Seek attn to present Dems counter narrative in many forums. I realize Jeffries' done more than Schumer. I want Schumer to lose his seat, as well as leadership. But, I see Crocket regularly getting attn, and I admire her for that. I don't see it from Jeffries as much.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I know race is a driving factor. Harris being black and female was main reason she lost. misogyny and racism. I'm not asking black folks to fix America's mess. But, as one leader of the party, Jeffries should be trying. He can always step down as leader, if he feels the same as you.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
BC I see minority leaders of Senate and House as being the leadership. And as I said before I'm angrier at Schumer than Jeffries. Schumer's literally done nothing, nor have pundits like Carville. At least Jeffreis has stepped forward on a few occaisions. I don't even know who the Dem chair is.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
This has nothing to do with his race. I'm angrier at Schumer than Jeffries. Jeffries was just the person mentioned in the post. There's lots of pols of all races that are doing a better job of meeting the moment than both leaders.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Lot's of unofficial ways to make a case for voting for Dems. No coherent msg from leadership right now other than "we're not Republicans." btw, It's not just white ppl protesting in LA and DC. Lots of Hispanics and black folks in the streets too.
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
This has nothing to do with race. I would have been accused of this regardless. I could have just as easily mentioned AOC, Rep Garcia, Pritzger, etc. Jeffries also threw Mamdani under the bus
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I mentioned her specifically bc she, AOC are meeting the moment. So you’re claim is bullshit
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
I wouldn’t be blaming her, bc she HAS been meeting the moment and talking loud and proud. I mentioned her specifically for that reason. I’m just as angry w/Schumer; hope AOC runs against him and turns him out of office
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
Supporting Democrats like Mamdani, going into the streets is DC to draw attention to the fascism. He’s saying little and undermining the one democrat
ecostarr (@ecostarr.bsky.social) reply parent
He is not meeting the moment and leading his party. He is following. He believes people will vote against Republicans, but by doing so, he is not giving them a reason to vote FOR Democrats. He needs to be replaced by someone that sees the GOP for the threat it is. Someone like Jasmine Crocket.

As a youngster, I never relied on govt data to tell me how well or poorly I was doing. This kind of info is most important for business leaders, economists, and corporations. Their response to this will be to rely on govt statistics less, since they will no longer be credible or trustworthy.
