Thanks. I plan to get into this. I hope there are good leaders and organizers who are taking in the factors contributing to success and failures. My concern is that people are getting a message that if we get 3.5% out a couple times it magically unlocks success and will give up when it doesn't.
I'm not saying it can't happen but I really need to look at a lot more detail about other factors contributing to the success or failure of uprisings and not treat 3.5% like a magic number. The US is huge and diverse and successfully throwing out the regime may take novel tactics.
Yes. I also know the 3.5% is a tendency, not a rule. Of the more than 300 uprisings studied 53% of the nonviolent ones succeeded, and the tendency to succeed has gone down since 2010. And that 3.5%has to be well-organized and willing to be in the streets 24/7 for months or years.
I really hope it can happen that way but history doesn't make it look likely.

Some states caucus rather than primary. The delegates to the convention take the advice of the results but can opt to put their votes behind a different candidate if they choose. Not every party even hold primaries. Only the two largest because it's easier to make a good call
