Serbia is a sovereign nation. This must be respected. If they decide to side with a dictatorial terrorist state, then their principles are incompatible with an EU membership. The accession to the EU must be ended immediately. We do not need another Putin minion blocking the EU.
Big structures are always slow. A central government wouldn't be faster. Continuous adjustments to a changing reality are always needed but usually not popular.
I don't think any European nation is ready for it. If you look at the USA, there is always the risk of having a natural disaster in the top office with no way out. If common-sense rules, the construct of the EU works perfectly fine to achieve all of that. Without common sense, no structure works.
That rule stems from a different era and had its merit. Changing it might be impossible. But who knows? The unlikely could happen: common sense prevails. If we have enough people with their butts on fire, they might move away from positions they said they will never move away from.
They don't want to hear it. That's why it is impossible for facts to reach them. They are a lost cause.

I have been saying this for months: with the USA as the veto member, we in Europe can't count on NATO. NATO needs a follow-up European organization, with the Canadians in it. Actually, Europe cannot do everything alone without the resources of the USA. We're already working to change that.
