We will never defeat Trumpism in this country so long as we accept the idea that some kinds of people are not as good as others. It's liberty and justice for all, all the way, for everyone, without a single asterisk.
We need to break the model that was consciously developed to prevent us from coming together. Insisting on someone who is going to do that is not "purity" politics. It is literally the whole game.
Bigotry was deployed--purposefully--to prevent us from developing solidarity with people whose economic interests are similar to ours. We cannot use the tool of blocking solidarity in order to develop it.

See, in the waxing to your kids example, I think the way that works best is if it reveals something specific about the character that's not just biographical detail. Like is this a story dad always tells and the kids are like, "yes, yes, we know, twenty WHOLE years"? Stuff like that.
It depends on the oversight. Like, a good note can absolutely make something way better. Having creative feedback is a big part of the process. Writers read and note each other all the time. Just, the phenomenon of explicitly spelling out emotion and exposition is usually not additive.
oh yeah, of course. so much of that stuff is very ymmv. I, for one, never notice when the prop to-go coffee cups are clearly empty on shows and in movies.

Those don't work for me because that stuff CAN come through in context (character relationships, etc) or is overly specific info that isn't necessary in the moment. Varric saying "we have to stop the ritual" is more comparable to, like, "if we don't find the kidnapper in 12 hours, the kid will die."
