If you're experimenting with materials (as in materials science), you'll want lab space. Biotech lab space is probably the most demanding for utility provision; every other non-industrial use is easily accommodated. Design work (likely CAD) will need electricity and climate control.

"Do you cut off your friends if they're a different political party?" No. "Do you drop people as friends if they start disparaging you, your family, your neighbors, your other friends, your home state, et fucking cetera?" Damn skippy. And then I cut those shitheads off. But they're not "friends".

Okay I've just received the weirdest scam text so far. First, it's from a 5 digit #, which is actually a cover for a +251 country code: Ethiopia! Second, it's the same text (though fucked up in various ways) as a BBB-listed scam e-mail claiming to be from RemX. Lastly, I went freelance in 1990. đ€Ą

The GOP tradition is to have a VP that nobody in their right mind would want as President. Dan Quayle, Dick Cheney, Mike Pence, JD Vance. A Republican white cishet guy more toxic than Vance. Bannon, Cruz, Nunes, etc.

With my old APCs, I just replaced the batteries every 3-4 years; my Cyberpowers are only 2 years old. I hope to do the same with these, but we'll see. (The APC's died in the lightning strike.)
FlyingToaster (@jasiglar.bsky.social) reply parent
We went with smaller capacity(450VA?) for the router/switch and WAP/Verizon stuff; rated for 15 min and actually last >2 hours (how long the last power outage was). High capacity (1500VA like pictured previously) for the offices and Tivos. Plenty of time to power down before you lose something. 2/2
FlyingToaster (@jasiglar.bsky.social) reply parent
Ours are location based. One per TV/Cable/Tivo/game/BluRay system. One per office (computers/switches/peripherals). One for the house Router/Switch; one for the first floor WAP (and incoming Verizon equipment, poor fucking design). Differing capacities for different requirements. 1/2
FlyingToaster (@jasiglar.bsky.social) reply parent
I can recommend either the APC or Cyberpower; that's what we have on all of the TVs (tivo), the Router, WAP and in mine and HerrDoktor's home offices. If you get a direct lightning strike (waves hand in July '22), you have to replace them.

Since it's not owned nor managed by Amtrak, I'm trying to figure out the rationale for taking over a state property like South Station. Honestly, isn't this a textbook violation of the 10th Amendment? South, North and BackBay Stations are owned by the Commonwealth and managed by the MBTA.

Several of my kid's teachers take attendance on their phones, then put THEIR phone in the last slot and start class. English and History teachers have been very happy, and when we had 2 bomb threats last year, the kids went and grabbed their phones to text their parents that they were okay. 2/2
FlyingToaster (@jasiglar.bsky.social) reply parent
This is all such horseshit. Our district implemented a "no phones during instructional time" ban last year. Each classroom has a phone hotel hanging next to the door. If your phone isn't already locked up in your backpack, it goes into a slot in the phone hotel and you grab it on the way out. 1/2

Yeah, sounds *exactly* like certain realtors hereabouts. Medford has been officially a suburb since WWII. Not a densely settled inner burb like Somerville, but for pete's sake, paint your damn crosswalks so kids can survive walking and biking to school.

Like, 8% of the Commonwealth's registered voters are Republicans. There are only 5 GOP Senators (of 40) and 25 Representatives (of 160) in the General Court. Even if you could convince all of the Republicans to congregate in one district, they're too few to win.
