I really enjoy those too but not doing great this year. It's one of my struggling plants. It has grown but is smaller than usual, it's set several fruit but also smaller than normal and only one has ripened with lots of cracks.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
thank you!

Check out the size of this garlic clove (from the farmers market). Finally something appropriate for when a recipe calls for 1 clove 🤣🤣🤣🤣
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Don't ask about my water bill 🤣🤣🤣
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Same here with heat waves but I got lucky. My plants seemed to have been 2-3 weeks behind in my area, so they had set fruit but a lot needed ripening. Cue heat wave.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
My favorites for flavor have been -Vin Jaune (orange heart/plum type) - sun gold cherries - principessa borghese plum/paste - Beauty King heirloom Disappointments: sweet million cherry, oregon spring slicer (both plants just wan) and a sunset bumblebee cherry that won't set fruit. 🌱

#TomatoSeason in full swing here! 🌱 Would love to hear folks favorite uses! We've been doing greek salads, tomato sandwiches, roasted cherry tomatoes, "moonblush" (overnight mostly dried) tomatoes, tabbouleh, cherry tom's & ciliegine mozz salad, and use in cooking too.

The "product varies in size by store" kills me. It's not just the nicer stores. Even Winco and Fred carry identical items in slightly different sizes. eg Laundry detergent and softener. I swear it's a cabal to make it hard to shop around. Everything becomes a calculation to compare cost.

Plenty of businesses were fine with the Reich in Germany. No one ever defended democracy by putting profit first.

God Bless Nishta Mehra for introducing me to the joy of Peach Tomato Basil salad. It marries the best of summer together in such a lovely way. Garden tomatoes & basil (& chive cause I like it), Hood River white peaches, s & wp, evoo, and bit of white balsamic to set off the sweetness.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Very well designed and manicured. Hopefully some of those plantings are natives! But there's also enormous beauty in wild and chaotic gardens, especially when intertwined with nature. I've learned to love that, and in ways I find a fully designed, tidy yard a bit artificial.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
It's so well made comparatively that I can't be irritated it's not classic SW format or feel. Versus to the Obi Wan series, I'll take Andor hands down. I just wish they put similar quality into all their endeavors.

To be fair we settled for all the grey because the house gave us 95% of what we were looking for (including a great 1/3 acre lot) and we knew eventually all the grey could be changed though it might be a ways down the road.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Our house is light grey with black doors (ugh!) but was done 1-2 years before our purchase in '23, so it doesn't make maint or $$$ sense to repaint house yet. We WILL be painting the black doors our previous house color to at least give it a pop. The color looks much brighter irl.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
ooooooh. lovely!!! Love that it's local tree wood. :)
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Full credit to @finderdoug.bsky.social on those butcher block countertops. We got the slab and he did all the work to cut, bevel and stain them.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
We want to partial reconfigure here so there would be some new cabinets (only a couple) and minimally a new section of countertop if not a full replace. I'm hoping painting makes me like the current countertop more!
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Love butcher block! We did own own staining (food grade) for these walnut countertops ourselves in our last place when we did a mini-reconfigure. Sadly it was for the sale - one of those wished we'd done it sooner!
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
These kinds of changes are always fulfilling - inevitably you end up wishing you'd done it sooner! We'd do a makeover now if it was in the budget... that will have to wait a while. Paint is cheap. Cabinets and countertops are not!

I am jealous of the courage to go bold. I am good at bold accents (eg furnishings and pillows and such) but shy away from it on walls. Admittedly I am not great at visualizing, and it's easier with the more muted / pastel tones.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
very bold! This is our countertop. The sparkles always look darker in photos.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you for my external validation! 🙃
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Well it's not yet, lol! But eventually. Looking forward to your pictures also!
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
The countertop is one of those sparkly quartz types. Not my fave but it was recent and in good shape. The sparkles have a tendency to look silvery / grayish, painting the cabinets green will hopefully bring out that more "sea glass" type tone in it.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
these are screenshots from the paint manufacturers. The second one was what we painted our prior bedroom (and will again here). It looks less yellowish irl.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
came here to say this.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Eventually those will get changed. And the white everywhere walls will be painted. (here's to knowing our colors from the last house!). Debating on painting the white kitchen cabinets one of these colors. (maybe bottoms only).
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
When we were home shopping I saw SO MUCH GRAY. For the life of me I can't fathom why PNW homes went so in on the gray trend. Absolutely hate. We had to settle for (lightish) gray LVP flooring and carpet in the home we bought. But at least it wasn't cabinets, counters, or walls.

Every state with a liberal majority should gerrymander the F out of their maps to counter this. They chose war. Who cares if they file lawsuits? For the record, the current TX maps which were already ridiculously gerrymandered are still under litigation.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh no! Hope you get that sorted out soon.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
I gotta wonder why aren't rich liberals bankrolling their stays? i get they have 2nd jobs, bills, homes, etc etc but all of that can be managed via money. If it was the GOP you know they'd have some sugar nazi paying for crap ala Harlan and Thomas, offering up the estate for them to stay, etc.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
They are making shit up. Just like their overlord. And we all know it's bs and would eventually be dismissed but that doesn't matter as long as it gets them the immediate result. And there's little hope of telling them to eff off and ignoring them since they have the enforcement on their side.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
It's rare enough for people to do it, almost unheard of for corporations. Just like most won't stand up against the admin because their priority is always profit and not people. No one ever saved democracy putting profit first.
JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
I believe in redemption but it requires true repentance. This means clearly admitting mistakes (not just DEI etc but also lying, blaming theft for stores closing when it was bad financials, and more) and demonstrating reforms.

JavaPeg (@javapeg.bsky.social) reply parent
So much TX politics ptsd. Honestly if they do this I am all for blue state retaliation and fix it later. I don't like gerrymandering in principle but you don't survive bringing a knife to a gunfight. I'm willing to feel guilty later and make amends in this case.

Stunning color. We get figs from our neighbor's tree, as the branches hang over our fence. Beautiful green ones with lush pink interiors but nowhere near as vibrant as those!
