Have the vote. But with a caveat - not anonymous. If the vote is to leave, see ya. If the vote is to remain, those who voted otherwise MUST leave. Problem solved. Put up or shut up.
Retired ECCC meteorologist, dedicated father, but not in that order. Skeptical of cynics, cynical about skeptics, exhausted by conspiracy theorists.

Make Canadian Doppler radar available.

Oh Pierre, you do have the right to protect yourself. You don’t have the right to nearly kill someone. That’s the law, and it was properly applied. If you disagree with the law, consider becoming a politician and lobby to change it. But you won’t do that by creating anger appealing to emotion.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
The AM software is still supported?? Good.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
Maybe I showed this to you before. Conventional radar (25-ish years ago Strathmore) showing a trof dispersing insects. Sky was otwz clear and was a puzzle to me. Paul Joe provided the insight later. Data only here - I had created separate custom topo background for media users.

He will argue these are different times. He has to deal with an inherited set of problems from the previous government, Trump, and Danielle Smith. Hopefully an oil-based ignition of the economy, and what income it may generate, will lead to a weaning of an oil economy. Ironic sounding, but a plan?
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social)
3/ I’ve said for years, the only verification that matters is not what was forecast versus what happened, but rather this: given the information available prior to the event, were the best forecast decisions made? I’d say they were in this case.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social)
2/ Being a good forecaster involves having relevant experience but in these once in a lifetime events there is NO experience to draw from. No forecaster alive in that area had ever worked through such an event. Forecasters rarely forecast record events, be it record temps, winds, or pcpn.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social)
1/ There will be questions and, no doubt, criticism of the Texas weather forecasts prior to this historic event. As a former forecaster, I can say the local forecasters did a great job from what I see. This disaster should not be politicized.

When did the Herald become tabloid crap?
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
It has always been difficult to truly convey the issues of climate change to the public and tangential, off-the-mark media coverage has never helped. Now that the issue is seemingly moving backwards, we need proper media attention more than ever. This is NOT a human interest story.

If it makes you feel better, a longer wait time isn’t reassuring. I waited 4 years for an MRI (hip) and then they imaged the wrong part. :( But I don’t argue about the rank triage results. Good luck. My son is a Medical physicist in YYC in the new centre. You’re in good hands.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
Alberta is a unique case. They should spend some time studying their own oil-related history and they’ll see how Conservative AB Premiers are those responsible for all oil-related troubles. Every Premier cries foul while pointing at a federal Liberal government, all the while ruining the province.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
We Canadians, sadly, are climate change experts…contributing to it greatly. :(
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
This just proves there is one way to be right and numerous ways to be an idiot.

How do you stand up to somebody without meeting with him? Carney would be doing a greater wrong by snubbing the arrogant felon. He has to be dealt with. I don’t see Carney bending over one bit. Let’s hope for the best. 🤞
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
Carney, nor anybody else, is responsible for any nonsense Trump churns out. Carney’s job is to host the whole event, not to temper or react to Trump’s verbiage. Carney did that well. No embarrassment at all.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social)
I guess this is safe to say out loud because they aren’t here.. I’m glad we’re chemtrailing like hell and adding fluoride to the water to make the flat-earthers and anti-vaxxers sterile. Aren’t you?
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
As I retired meteorologist with Environment Canada, I am truly saddened by this. Government meteorologists are like hockey referees- when they do their job, you don’t notice them. People are eventually going to notice the missing shifts displayed.

Lowest “living standards” while having, by far, the highest provincial GDP per capita. So any of the majority of Albertans not realizing that high GDP should ask themselves - who the hell is bringing up the average? Hint: who is telling you to push for pipelines…?

Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
A lot of talk by a certain Premier about how much $ would be lost if oil wasn’t taken from the ground. She neglected to point out the eventual financial cost of doing so! It’s not good business.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, I’ve said Canada has held a great advantage - oil wealth to help the energy transition that is necessary and inevitable. Forgetting the effects of climate change, investment in O&G doesnt make long term financial sense to the average guy. The fantasy is thinking otherwise.
Jim M (@jimmur.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure, let’s procrastinate more. Let’s ignore the increasing financial cost of climate change. And continue to focus on avoiding diversification of the economy at the same time. Woo hoo!

The leader of the Opposition is an important role in Canadian politics. PP is not fulfilling those duties. Conservatives should be more bothered than anyone else. The shmendrick lost the election, and his seat, and he still seems to be campaigning in the same immature manner.

Right wing extremism is not a new thing in (my home province) Alberta. It is simply this: the wealth provided by the oil resources fosters a high degree of entitlement. Keegstra and holocaust deniers, Proud Boys, Naziism,… the redneck persona is real among the blue collars. Nothing new. No worries.🤞
