It's kind of telling that the russian Chief of the General Staff is making any claims at all about something so insignificant as this. It's not even a village, it's a double handful of homes along a minor road. This is the entire "village".
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
I of course want to protect Vance's bodily integrity. I don't want a large man named Joshua to insert dildos in all of his orifices at the same time. I also want the molestation to stop.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, just read up on it a little bit. Apparently the non-russian part of WoT ran a fundraiser for Ukraine, and that was used as an excuse to seize the russian parts.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
So, they decided that the founders were extremists, and stole their companies?

Since I know almost nothing about quantum mechanics, I can say confidently that this is proof that we live in a simulation.

That is clearly not a cluster warhead, it's just one big explosion.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Wasn't there a strike against a bridge south of Odesa early in the war? But, yeah, judging by how it could apparently approach without taking any fire, the Ukrainians clearly weren't prepared for this kind of threat.

I think he's saying that ICE are criminals, and therefore it shouldn't surprise anyone that they are wearing masks?

The current Oryx number is 3558 destroyed and captured, which I casually rounded to 4,000.

Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Compared to the 4,000 tanks russia has lost in Ukraine, 219 is barely a rounding error.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Claiming that the Ukrainians are nazis is part of the propaganda russia uses to justify their invasion. So, are you trying to help Washington, or russia, or both?

From what I understand, most of the parts are just solid metal, so very hard to damage. Unlike in vehicle mounted artillery, where the vehicle itself has lots of vulnerable parts, and, crucially, a lot of stuff that can burn. And once it burns, it is almost guaranteed to be a complete write-off.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
No, this is a different ERAM. It's an air-to-surface munition, some kind of hybrid between a cruise missile and a guided bomb, supposedly with a range of 400km. And while 3,350 units sounds great, that's likely gonna take several years to produce.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
I wonder if any other European army than the Ukrainian one could have stopped this much armor? That's twelve THOUSAND vehicles. Along with the thousands of losses the Ukrainians have taken, this war has pretty much destroyed the entire Soviet armor legacy.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm kind of impressed how consistent the 1:2 tank:IFV losses have been throughout the war.

And I'm not sure exactly what the definition for "postal voting" is, but Sweden should be green as well I think. Everyone can go to a large number of polling stations for a few weeks before election day to cast our votes. If you do, you can still vote on election day, and your first vote is removed.

I'm not holding my breath, but it would certainly be great if they could get rid of Orban the democratic way, even though he has rigged the entire system to the point that the EU classifes Hungary as a "partial democracy".

Makes it abundantly clear that this was never about making people use the toilets of their "birth gender", and all about making non-conforming people disappear completely. Because otherwise the reaction would have been "Oh, you're using the correct bathroom, very good!"

Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Not gonna lie, that's a pretty professional looking setup. Why doesn't every European country have two of these factories, giving Ukraine so many drones that the only limitation is for them to find viable targets?
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
In two weeks. If pressured, it will turn out that, unfortunately, unlike for example tariffs, this is totally something that the president can't make decisions on, it is some other poor schmuck that is responsible for not releasing them.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Other way around. They need the EU. But it's becoming increasingly doubtful that the EU needs them. Hopefully they will get rid of Orban, but it's hard with the way he has rigged the election system.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent

I mean, "mass". It's, what, four or five vehicles? I'm old enough to remember when they used to send waves of full mechanized companies, to take Avdiivka. That's almost two years ago. Admittedly, they've "advanced" 30 kilometers in that time. Only 500 more to Kyiv!

What, no? In the final months, he assigned a lot of resources to Ukraine. Essentially everything that has been delivered since trump became president is actually from Biden. And it's the Biden weapons that Hegseth has been stopping several times.

Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Increasing the demand is going to increase the price, which will increase the amount of import taxes they can collect. I very much doubt lowering the tariffs is part of the plan here.

See? Antisemitism!
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
I bet it's because of the Israeli flag on there. Because any criticism of Israel, even imaginary, is antisemitism, apparently.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
On the other hand, this way the lesser courts can continue to rule the way they used to, and if the trumpists have a problem with it, they will have to take it to the SC every time.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean, they've been without water for two years. That's stable, right?
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Isn't the whole point of a supreme court that they should explain to the lesser courts how the laws should be interpreted?
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
The excuse will come in the future, when Israel has killed all democratic attempts in Syria, and some fanatics have taken power by blaming Israel for everything bad and attack them. Then Israel will say: "See! We knew it! Terrorists, all along!" It worked fine against Palestine.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, the Defense Ministry is probably a legitimate target in war. But since when is Israel at war with Syria? Then again, the US has shown that this is acceptable, if you have air superiority you can bomb other nations, and fully believe that you will get a Nobel Peace Prize for it...
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Or, probably more likely, a combination. The Epstein file won't have things like "Senator Thisandthat of Importantstate had his unnatural ways with two 12 year old siamese twins", which is what they are expecting. Instead it's just long lists of famous people he has met, and he has met everyone.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
That file must either be such a massive nothing-burger that nobody wants to catch the ire of those waiting for it, since they will claim that it was doctored; or so full of rich and famous people of all stripes that neither side dares release it.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
I am confused, yet aroused.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
Nah. These are reasonably cheap weapons, and a position like that won't be damaged by anything other than a direct hit. If it was some kind of command unit, even better.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
So, 3 missiles per day? To stop several hundred Shahed drones per day? I know, this isn't the only system to be used, but quantity is also a quality, and one that we seem to have forgotten.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm reminded of @xkcd.com 's comments on advertising. If they spend that much money on politicians, it's because they expect those politicians to make decisions that give them at least that much money from somewhere else. xkcd.com/870/

Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
According to Graham, the "plan" is to sell weapons to Europe, and then they can give them to Ukraine if they want. If that is the case, it would be better to spend the money to boost Ukrainian and European arms industries instead.

Yes, but every infantry soldier carries an assault rifle anyway. Issuing new ammunition is a lot easier than issuing new weapons.
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
So, they're hoping to sell weapons to Europe again, because it hurt the US economy when Europe decided it was maybe not a good idea to buy weapons from someone who threatens you. And trump needs a new excuse to impose tariffs on Brazil, India and China. Did I get that right?
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
It needs a coat of red paint, to make it go FASTA!
Jon Hallin (@jonhallin.bsky.social) reply parent
