Like do not get me wrong I respect the fuck out of the guys in the field, the foremen are great and the supers have taught me a TON, but they are not working in the field because they want to deal with apps.
I have repeatedly gotten ads for new apps for simplifying communication for construction crews in the field and I gotta say I am unsure any of the people developing these apps have ever actually met construction crews in the field, mostly because they're trying to develop an app for them.
They make a desert and call it peace.

In my estimation, a lot of the people who have problems with Bluesky are so used to platforms just serving up the content buffet that they're unwilling to do the work to have a good experience here. That work is the social part of social media.

Professionalize it. Standardized uniforms, standardized training (none of this wolf warrior bullshit), clearly defined responsibilities, outside non-LEO internal affairs bureau. They have to be visible too - you should need a warrant for an undercover investigation, and no black text on black cars.
We should split current cops into Law Enforcement (detectives, active scene response), Public Protection (traffic cops and patrol cops), and Local Aid (wellness checks, non-emergency response, non-criminal response). All need to be different agencies, only LE should be armed, and abolish SWAT.

I think the thing that makes me most confident Vance will flounder is that he isn’t Trump and the people who that matters to aren’t us. That, and these went from funny little widgets and research projects to the biggest companies in the entire world marketing them to everyone and for everything, who deliberately started taking the most belligerent tone possible towards the creators of the material their products were built out of.
It's mostly marketed as a two part paperback, but the single volume hardcover edition was really well made! Also while the cover art is, of course, gorgeous, I do appreciate the ability to remove the dust jacket for a bit more... covert storage, shall we say.
The disconnect is between "is this technically impressive from a technology standpoint" (yes) and "is this technically impressive from an artistic standpoint" (no), which is amped up emotionally by artists viewing - and tech execs *explicitly marketing* - AI as the creative-arts-job-destroyer-9000
The writing is compelling, and the worldbuilding is great - ambiguous where it needs to be, detailed where it counts, and clearly well thought out from the writer's perspective. The characters are heartfelt individually, and the cast works together very well. I'd love to see more of their story!
I wouldn't have said I'm one for romance novels, but I picked up a hard copy of @rukis.bsky.social's HeartTheft from @furplanet.com at TFS this year and I gotta say it is *incredibly* well done. Enjoyed it thoroughly from start to finish, strongly recommend if you like solid fantasy and furry smut!

and I guess above all I think it's really stupid to go "YES! We Democrats want you all to die of cancer and we'll do it until you vote for us! Fuck your hospitals!" when we aren't in control and this isn't a result of our policy. The GOP is who is killing the rurals, not us - we need to say that!
And we need to hopefully repair the social contract - yes the GOP tore it to shreds, but we want better than they do. We should take away the bullshit subsidies and inequalities given to some parts of the rural pops to buy their favor, which failed - that doesn't mean literally hope they all die.
IMO: both rural and urban hospitals are good and important, healthcare is a human right and hoping to abolish rural life is both bad and unrealistic, but we almost certainly will have to triage the medical system and by definition urban hospitals serve more people. We shouldn't revel in it, though.

If you want to precisely define what is and isn’t allowed from a technical standpoint, you really need to know the specifics. If you want to say “yeah we’re banning rifles unless you take two years of licensing classes and prove every 6 mos you still have them and they’re locked”, you totally don’t!
I think the issue is that we have granular regulation - blanket “well if you want a firearm you must sign up for x license and pass y check and do z classes” or even “no firearms” would be preferable to “no guns with a barrel over 20” or under 6” or with a folding stock unless it’s wire but not if-“
