When I saw SRV at his Boathouse show (headliner), he stopped between songs to give a brief but impassioned speech against Apartheid in South Africa. As a newly minted college freshman at ODU, I was just getting involved in anti-Apartheid activities, and it really motivated me. He was a good soul.
I'm so grateful I got to see him at The Boathouse. That was a great dive for so many shows. You could see the bands up close quite safely and not too high from the floor. I need to scan some pics I took from shows I saw in '83, the year it opened. You will know their Floridian names!
With the CDC gutted, everything is! Unfortunately, there is too much natural immunity against it.
