The use case for maglev is difficult to make. Conventional rail is outstandingly efficient, and can be made quiet and smooth (quieter, apparently, than the TransRapid design). The track is a tiny fraction of the cost. Maglev works well for medium speed, like the autonomous Aichi Linimo.
