I'd rather deal with "you could have been aborted!" people than pro-choice NPR liberals. At least the former are honest about seeing us as commodities and not giving AF what happens to us in adoption. The latter are the same but smarmy disingenuous hypocrites about it. 🥚

I believe in choice. One never knows what the woman is going through. It is about the baby, but also about the mother. And sometimes a woman carrying a child through life means she will die, or be reminded daily of her rapist or bring a child into this world with major disabilities.

Pro choice means fewer unplanned pregnancies and, therefore, fewer children put into the system. How are you making pro choice an enemy?

donnagratehouse.bsky.social @donnagratehouse.bsky.social

That's true and also most liberals want more adoption, which requires unplanned pregnancies and poor mothers unable to care for them. The forced birthers are honest about it while pro-choice people pretend that isn't so.

Liberals want fewer unplanned pregnancies to occur, as well as greater access to abortion. The result would be fewer children born. Fewer children born, and the parents of the children having planned their pregnancies, means fewer kids in the system. We don't want more births.

I agree but you also love adoption. Difference is you pretend not to understand it requires unplanned pregnancies and people lacking means to keep the babies. Anti-choicers are at least honest about that. And my post was for adopted people, not you.

You're misunderstanding the liberal agenda. We don't want a higher total number of adoptions. We want a higher percentage of kids in the system to get adopted, but an overall lower number of kids in the system. Trust me on this. There's no dishonesty about it

No I do not misunderstand it all. I am not aware of any liberal opposition to the private infant adoption industry. Liberals adopt infants too. Anyway this is an Adoptees of Bluesky conversation. 🥚

I'm just gobsmacked she's admitting all this. You're an AP and you aren't embarrassed that your family wasn't good enough to raise your grandchild in? It's just more proof adoption has fuck all to do with child safety.

Yep, I can see why the girl "chose" relinquishment and it breaks my heart for her. I also doubt the now-adult adoptee spends much time with them. Generally, bio families tend to overstate the relationships they have with returning adoptees. A card twice a year is "she's part of the family now!" 🥚

I think she's used to receiving praise for selfless acts of saviourism. Probably very surprised to find her usual shtick didn't land with adoptees. Adopting after the adoptee aged out of state funded care is very telling. 🥚

Did she confirm which daughter relinquished the baby? It wasn't clear to me if it was the foster daughter or the bio daughter. Both are a yikes and a critique of her character but for different reasons.

Assuming it's the adoptee because someone like her would likely press a bio daughter in HS to get an abortion over giving away a grandchild or being a teen mom.

My adoptive family abused me and they can rot in hell. I know not all adoptive families are like that but neither are all bio families like the one you describe. In any case adoption was neither designed nor intended to prevent child abuse. If you've got money you don't lose kids for any reason.

With infant adoption it has everything to do with it. People are paying $50K+ for newborns. That's the commodification I am referring to. Foster care is increasingly going that way with people seeking to foster babies and toddlers only, planning to adopt them.

I can’t imagine the terror , or uncertainty 1 must feel to give up a child. I’m sure our adult adoptees will always have matters of concern their adopted moms have not heard. ( though each could’ve met their birth mothers. They chose not to do so) Having them in our family was definitely our gain.

Of course they can experience a range of emotions directly attributable to the adoption. I can only pray our adult adoptees feel like they can come to ANY of us, or find through us, any help, understanding or therapy they feel necessary. Course we are damn clannish…so there’s that
