Hunger is real, and we have a nice simple word for it ("hunger"). The irony is that there are a lot of Republican voters in the "dollar stores have driven out the grocery stores" food deserts who will be the first to claim that "food insecurity" is a weird left-wing concept.
Hunger is a condition experienced individually. I think the advantage of food insecurity is that it's broader- maybe you will have something to eat tomorrow, maybe you won't. The uncertainty is a problem in and of itself- and that it implies a social/policy failure, not just a hard luck individual.
A little like the difference between poverty and broke. You can be fairly well off but broke because you spent 15K on a living room set on Wednesday and you don't get paid until Friday. Poverty is a deeper problem that must be addressed systematically.

No. Plain language is powerful. Euphemisms aren’t. Read the writings/ speeches of James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, Frederick Douglass, Lincoln. They expressed powerful ideas in simple accessible clear language.

I think that the issue is that 1) the US had monied interests negatively influencing the education system, 2) leisure time and access to reading materials is on the decline, which reduces time spent reading/language skills, and 3) there's lost trust in science for good reason. 1/4
Think about how many times the average person has been promised something is safe by scientists working for a corporation only to find out later those very same scientists knew all along it wasn't safe at all. This has severely eroded public trust. 2/4
In addition, it's well known that students are penalized for raising any questions about research done by mentors or big names in science, further eroding trust. Then, there are the articles that get past the peer review process that shouldn't. 3/4
I may only have an MS, but even I know that an article that draws its conclusions based on correlation and not causation shouldn't get published, but they do. I think maybe it's time to take a critical look at how science shares information, maybe? 4/4
Definitely agreed. Academia, at least in the West, serves the West’s capitalist interests at all costs. As an example, the options of research that can get done and things that can get published is significantly narrowed by capital interests. We are kept in a box, academically. Which imo contributes

Thank you. I had some major struggles getting my MS. Between being told what I should focus on because disabled people should want to be "fixed" rather than have tools to help to having a committee member insisting I cite her when she was wrong . . . it was aweful.

That’s what part of what police abolition is striving for, to minimize the need for any police at all being replaced by not just the social services required for the public, but a society that providing the resources to disincentivize criminal acts: guaranteed access to mental health, housing, etc.
