I think the only times when the military was deployed was when the hurricane destroyed New Orleans and they were needed on top of the National Guard and the other I believe was Abe Lincoln for the civil war. But not against Americans in either case.
There have been a few times where the government siced active duty on American Soil against citizens abd residents. A real well known is 1932 Bonus Army in DC. They sent in the military to attack a protest group of 20k WWI veterans in DC.
That said it absolutly isn't for fighting protesters, but it is for handling large domestic disturbances. So if he can make LA instable enough, it would actually fit but sadly only due to his actions.
Wildest thing is the last time this country had a President use the Insurrection Act, was the LA riots in 1992.
I was living in So Cal about 35 miles inland and that first couple of nights there were barely anyone out at night. The home center where I worked didn’t have a single customer after 6 so we got permission to close early. My crew (mostly women) were so scared they were pleading to go home.

It would be interesting to see the orders the commands received. My thoughts are that they were veiled as peace keeping orders. The Commanders of the units involved are either loyalists or afraid of being instantly separated for not obeying if they were blatantly unconstitutional.

I guess I would follow orders but remain calm,don’t engage w/protesters. That means being able to stand up to insults & some assertive/aggressive folks which if I think about it means basic training insults. I kept my politics to myself while serving bc as a nurse I got to be objective.

This is actually absolutely not true. I am a member of a private group that has thousands of former military officers for the most part because of my age most of us are retired who are all anti-Trump the military is actually reflection of the general population about 50-50.

When you posted this, the current reporting at the time was that Trump had federalized and "deployed" troops. It wasn't until within the last hour, I saw photos of troops. How do you know the rest weren't simply still en route?

Yes, I know he did, but they were not resigning in protest of illegal orders. They were fired. And they were incredible officers and it was a travesty, but this is a different issue
