They get furious when they find out folks like my addict inlaw are getting a free apartment in the Tenderloin.

I admit I dont know much about the particular case you're referring to, i saw the clip but dont presume to know the specifics on that particular case.
When homeowners are furious because a fire started in an encampment, there is tremendous pressure on politicians to act. When an encampment sets up in a flood zone or off the end of a runway or has been overrun by worse people, the best thing to do is destroy it--hard tho that is.
