Military members, like any other citizens, have responsibility to keep up with U.S. laws and the constitution they SWORE to uphold (plus the UCMJ). There's also a conscientious objector process. So if all else fails, if an order would cause you to feel undue guilt, you can refuse it!
When I was in the service I was taught that yes, I could refuse an unlawful order, and in fact it was my duty to do so, to break the chain of events that lead to war crimes. Not sure what they're teaching these days, but that's literally the wording of the oath every military member takes.
