DT says a lot of things most of which is made up. He won't publically acknowledge our sovereignty and even if he did it wouldn't matter. What we got was more negotiating time. The name of the US game is chaos, and while it would be great to walk away or punch back we can't really do either.
The analogy certainly breaks down, but when you know your opponent is going to do this you take that into consideration. Time, we need time and that is what we are playing for.
And PMMC is well respected around the world, I don't think Pmurt qualifies as a difficult leader.
One consistency with Poilievre is that I can’t think of anything positive he’s said about Canada. Even when he was a cabinet minister under Harper. Not. One. Thing. #cdnpoli

This is huge! Companies in Canada have invested considerable sums in MS, Google, Amazon, based on knowing that the data was both secure AND that sovereignty would be maintained. There was contractual wording on it. Building the infrastructure to replace these services can be done but not easily.
I've been thinking about this and see new posts on the subject. I wonder how many entities that get insurance know where their company keeps the data? There is a lot of sensitive data (personally identifiable) on those servers. In my view data sovereignty was as important as security.
I suspect for 2 reasons: I doubt we have the infrastructure; and I think this posture is new. MS purposely built Canadian data centres because we demanded data sovereignty. Again, I suspect there was a discussion in the States that went 'see here MS unless you want a 97% tax rate, here's the rules'
I don't think we are missing the moment at all, we are gathering time. PMMC knows full well that you cannot trust the USian administration. But they are 10X our size. An ego based fight might be more satisfying, but there might be other approaches rather than to broadly tax Canadians. We will win.

I'm positive that PMMC knows there is no good faith coming from the US at this time. Project 2025 wants us and we need time. While it is not as satisfying as telling them to stuff it, it removes what is a tax on Canadians and keeps our economy employing Canadians.
Very interesting! I was in IT before I retired and keeping data in Canada was VERY important to our company and the government. So much so, that Microsoft put cloud servers and processes in Canada to maintain data sovereignty. Apparently with a few strokes of the pen all that went away

I think people tend to be quick to use the term 'traitor', but if you have no official government capacity, and you meet with another country's govt officials regarding separation, well that must be crossing the line somewhere. Especially if you discuss $$$ to do so.

Seems every summer has high hazard wildfire smoke days now. When I grew up, we never heard of those. But we did have smog days back then. We took action on smog pollution and it has saved many lives. Hard to stop the wildfire trend without addressing the issue of greenhouse gases/planet warming.
