My dad is (hopefully temporarily) wheelchair bound, and my family doesn't have a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Of ALL of the various options for transport, the most reliable and cheapest has been Houston Metro. Taxis, Uber, private companies flake or are unavailable for hours and cost a fortune.

The passenger trains often have to cede the track to the cargo, so timing can be approximate. I have a conference in Austin next week and am thinking about taking one of those busses that leave from downtown. But I’ll probably drive.
The city of Houston has a train on its logo, and trains shut down the city on a regular basis. The train system in this country is large and sophisticated, but not for passengers.
There is a math on whether flying or driving is more efficient. We just drove back from Taos to Houston (about 17 hours with a two hour nap break in there for 900 miles). Flying involves airport travel, flight, rental car, then three hour drive from ABQ. There is no train option.

Yeah, maybe. I have a lot of family I’d be leaving behind though. I THINK I could probably find some sort of decent remote privacy/data governance gig, but I’m very US specialized. Mexico may be where I eyeball, and more realistically, New Mexico if I need to stay stateside but can’t handle Texas.
