Verbiage matters. How you choose to define a problem affects how you'll see it and what solutions you'll consider. I try to insist on the phrase "wealth inequality", rather than "income inequality", because I happen to think there's an important difference.
And yet, when it comes time for Serious Professional Adults to talk about the problem, all of a sudden, the problem is that poor people aren't MAKING enough money. They're poor because they're not EARNING enough. Terms like "poverty line" or "middle class" are defined by income, not nest egg.
I'm like this about the phrase "income inequality" or "economic inequality". When we speak colloquially about "rich" and "poor", we understand them to mean "someone who HAS more money than they need" and "someone who doesn't HAVE enough money", respectively. A "millionaire" HAS a million dollars.

There's a reason Mario Kart has a blue shell - if the winners just keep on winning the whole way, the losers have no hope, and stop trying - and even the winners lose when the losers don't want to play any more. Designing a good game requires making sure there's always something to push for.
As a game designer, I've often likened politics to game design - it's all about guiding the player action and ensuring things keep moving in an interesting way for all concerned. I'm actually really encouraged by the fact that this was a well-designed fun game. I believe those skills overlap.
