New York Times readers already know what we're losing. That needs to be published someplace Trump voters will read it, if there is such a place.

You mean "The president [Biden] is not a threat to democracy, but running and suppressing other candidates is a threat when you are behind in the polls like he is. He's a good man and someone I respect, but this delusion that he can win is a threat to democracy."
Taylor Grayson (@taylorgrayson.bsky.social) reply parent
"deep, widespread misunderstanding of the fundamental pillars of a free society." Yes. And we need to figure out a better way to teach this, maybe by studying how free societies fail.

I've only watched a few episodes, but it doesn't seem very exciting. I think the TOS was more suspenseful because of the dramatic music and the cliffhangers before every advertisement break.

No, it's stuffy, bureaucratic talk. It's amazing to me that Democrats can't absorb constructive criticism. These terms aren't being criticized by Republicans, they're being criticized by Democrats who want to win.

"others don't even know what the words" That's been my complaint. "Authoritarianism" is an abstract word and doesn't sound that bad. More visceral words are needed.

You're confusing the economic left with the cultural left. DEI is a project of the cultural left, which doesn't care much about economics. It's not surprising the DSA is mostly white.
Taylor Grayson (@taylorgrayson.bsky.social) reply parent
No, they don't. If you don't understand that the entire ideology is far left, then you understand nothing about it. This is why it began in institutions dominated by the far left (universities) and spread out, first to other institutions dominated by the far left (non-profits).

I'm not sure why everyone feels compelled to make excuses for them. It's simply untrue that cooking healthy takes longer. High fat, salt, and sugar are really tasty and it takes a lot of effort to move away from that and people just aren't motivated.

Yeah, the book "How Robert E. Lee Lost the Civil War" makes the case that that Lee was an inferior general to Grant based on many criteria, including casualty rate. Part of the Lost Cause mythology is that Grant just threw bodies at the South with callous indifference.

hmm, the AI history says it came out of the religious sanctuary movement in the 1980s. San Francisco was the first to declare itself a sanctuary city, which suggests a more ideological motivation than a practical one. If it were only a practical position, seems like they wouldn't brag about it.

Anyway, I personally do not care about hiring preferences--I have enough education that it doesn't impact me. What I loathe are the DEI training programs that employees must endure--they're indoctrination programs into far left-ideology. The far left is a cult, not much different from MAGA.

They're not prevented from "taking the test". Discrimination has been illegal since 1964. DEI doesn't exist to give everyone equal opportunity, it's designed to give extra advantage to non-whites. Proponents SAY this, although they'll deny it when criticized.

It's ironic that you say that white men can't compete when DEI programs are *designed* to cripple their ability to do so. So many progressive organizations state upfront they don't want white people. On a macro level, it doesn't really impact them, because DEI programs aren't actually effective.
Taylor Grayson (@taylorgrayson.bsky.social) reply parent

Taylor Grayson (@taylorgrayson.bsky.social) reply parent
The "woke" is a tiny portion of people on the political left; even liberals eye-roll at much of the woke ideology, so it's not a right-wing thing. My observation is that most pro-woke people know very little about woke ideology or woke behavior in the real world. They operate much like a cult.

Still the wrong attitude. If you desire to communicate effectively with people, you should be *delighted* to learn about better ways to do that. That list is a bare minimum, though, and good communication requires more than knowing what not to say.
