That said, some of the language (in particular, the widespread racism) hasn’t aged well, so it is very much a novel of its time. I think readers are intelligent enough to contextualize a novel in terms of when it was written, but I still feel a responsibility to point out that I’m not blind to it.
Just started “Cogan’s Trade” by George V. Higgins (which became “Killing Them Softly” in theaters). Some of the grittiest and most well-written dialogue this side of Elmore Leonard. I’ve never seen an author characterize people so well through their words. #booksky #books

The Troop is one of my absolute favorite books of all-time. It is an absolute gem.
I ended up absolutely loving Red Rising. I cannot believe I almost put that book down. Still, I needed a palate cleanser afterward, so I am re-reading Stephen King's 'Skeleton Crew,' because I saw 'The Monkey' last night and could not believe it was purported to be the same text. #books #booksky

I started (but didn’t finish) Blindness, by José Saramago, and that book freaked me out. The way governments will treat their citizens when surrounded by uncertainty is absolutely unsettling.
That is the ONE Charlie Huston book I’ve never read! I need to “cure” that ASAP.

Wow! I've never made that connection, but I can one hundred percent see it. I guess this was the beginning of taking independent action scripts and dropping John McClane into them.
The opening scene ALONE wouldn't get made in 2025 (probably for good reasons). Die Hard is the GOAT, but I'd argue Die Hard with a Vengeance is waaaaaay more fun to watch.
