Trump is constantly threatening to turn military guns on civilians. There are 950k in are military. There are 340 million guns in the hands of 300 million civilians. The country is a tinderbox right now, and a responsible leader would be trying to cool passions instead of lighting a match to them.
Why? Because they are heavily regulated to keep them out of the hands of crazy people. AR rifles should be similarly regulated. The problem now in doing anything is that there is good reason not to trust the government.
