I thought school transit was a relatively solved problem (buses). I don't know what has happened in the last 20 years though, because no one I know that has kids, lets their kids ride the bus. Its bizarre.
Finally got the MTB out this year. It’s sad I hadn’t at all until now. Silver Lake is a lot of fun and not a bad drive. I’ll definitely be going back.

Apparently today some were replaced. I noticed on my walk tonight that the signs at Winchester are brand new. I didn’t walk any further so not sure if they got more replaced. I guess we can start the clock to see how long these last.
Our girl is 10 today. Hard to believe! Slowly seeing her slow down which is hard, but she still has a lot of moments where she sure doesn’t act 10. Hopefully many more years to come. 🎂

Noticed this too recently and took a pic of one of them at Winchester. I’ve even seen cars hit them while walking in the area. Some of it seems to stem from cars passing stopped buses.

I've been frustrated for years by bike lanes that end at intersections, so I'm happy to see these protected intersections. It is very odd to be dumped back into a regular painted bike lane after the intersection though. I'm hoping that protected bike lanes are part of the long term goal.
Also wild that they admit a majority of residents supported the dispensary. Aldermanic prerogative never ceases to look dumb.

Just had a chat with my dad who is in his upper 60s. He has long been an EV/E-bike skeptic, but he just ordered his first ebike. I cannot wait for him to get it. Ebikes are game changers and I think getting more people on them just helps spread the word.

If you are curious why people like Burchett talk badly about Memphis and don't offer any solutions or help, you only need to check the demographics to find out why. Memphis is over 60% black and under 24% white. It has been a pariah of the state for some time. TLDR: Fuck Tim Burchett and Bill Lee
Is it hypocritical for TN to send National Guard to DC while they have cities with higher crime rates? Yes But I also hate to see Memphis even getting brought up in this discussion. Its history is complicated and the state is actively working against it most of the time instead of trying to help.
Yeah, it seems really sketchy. I keep seeing people posting it saying "this is cool", but it is basically nothing without signing in. I'm not one to normally go around signing into stuff I know nothing about.

The coloring on that poll is confusing. Rose is a R, so this must just be polling for the primary. That being said, as a former TN resident. It doesn’t matter. Phil Bredesen was the last Dem gov of TN and he ran against Marsha for senate in 2018 and only got 37% of the vote. TN is a lost cause.

I’ve taken Metra out to the suburbs for a few biking trips. I really enjoyed it, but the trip planning was super tedious. Especially if you want to bike from one line to another.
Sadly since moving here almost 3 years ago, I’ve only been once! I drove down to Palos for that one time and I live in Ravenswood, so I think it took me over an hour. I’m thinking of trying Silver Lake in WI soon. I only just learned about it.
As someone who loves mountain biking and transit, this was one of the most disappointing things I learned after moving here and learning about Metra.

Oh, I definitely get the appeal that these are great to get infrastructure in place now, rather than later, but just seemed odd framing to say they are better. Better now than later, of course. My brain always sees them as temporary though.

Of course it’s cheaper. It looks like just a temporary proof of concept. It definitely doesn’t look like a permanent solution. As a cyclist, I would never consider that as an area for filtering and as a pedestrian, since it’s not curb level, it doesn’t feel like a good space either.
I don’t see how it’s better and complaining about bump outs seems so weird to me.

Chicago Grit racing series comes to Fulton Market
They’re one of my favs. First time seeing them live was actually at Memphis in May in 2017 I think it was.
Lord Huron at Salt Shed last week. I think it was my 4th time seeing them and it’s always a great show.
I walked by last night to check it out and still saw tons of cars rolling the stop sign and I bet they didn't even notice the intersection was "raised."
I think raised crosswalks and intersections are great, but Chicago sure doesn't know how to do them. The new "raised" intersection at Damen and Leland is a joke. Seems like a waste of effort. It is barely raised. The sidewalks still aren't level. This all seems like some kind of half attempt.
Isn’t most of that area RS-3 which allows 2-flats? I mean, I agree that we should allow 3-flats everywhere but I’ve noticed even in RS-3 zones, it seems only huge expensive SFH get built.
I think we got one of the last ones. We bought it last fall and they closed the website right after. The price was pretty great given the components and also them being fairly standard off the shelf Shimano components makes me not worry so much about them being out of business now.
She loves it! And I love it cause the seat goes high enough for me to ride it too. We have about a foot in height difference between us, so it’s really nice being able to share a bike like that for errands and what not.
Funny enough, if we are just picking up beer, we normally buy Dovetail, but for an actual brewery visit, we go to Begyle. It’s nice having so many options in the neighborhood. Try Is/Was on your next visit if you haven’t yet. It’s a nice spot too with some interesting beers.
